Hopefully this thread ages as being quite pre-mature...However...
Our core guys are all Seniors next year...and each has a COVID year after that (if I understand it correctly) meaning last year doesn't "count". So they "could" be here for two more years.
Holden Basile Calvin Finke
Does anyone have a guess as to whether any of those guys will move on after next year rather than stay for the COVID year? (Is there a COVID year for the red-shirt types?) Or whether anyone is likely to move on yet after THIS year?
It appears that Manns decided - or it was decided for him - that he would not be using his COVID year here - if that's even a thing for the red-shirters. Any guess as to whether he will look to use that COVID year elsewhere? I think Neff is coming back for his COVID year. I have tremendous respect for all of the walk-ons...but coming back for a 5th year is remarkable.
Alex H played a fair amount last year but that year doesn't "count". So he has four years eligibility remaining. He's a red-shirt Soph next year. We could have really used him this year.
Welage will be a Junior next year...so he could be here for three more years. I really like that kid.
Noel is a red-shirt Freshman. It seems like he's been here for five years already. So...he's a Soph next year? Four years eligibility remaining? Does anyone have a feel for whether he will be a contributor next year?
This year's Freshman are getting a little run...so that's good for the future. I like both Norris & Braun.
We have two guys inked for 2022. Both are having successful Senior years in HS. I wonder if either will see the court next year or if RS is their path.
Do we have a 'Ship still available? An impact transfer would be nice.
We could be in decent shape next year if the core FOUR come back...Alex gets healed up...and Noel can contribute...while Norris/Braun/Welage continue to develop.

Appreciate the write-up. Hoping we get the top 4 you listed to all come back because that would be huge.
I wouldn't be surprised if we lost at least one of the top 4. Hopefully we keep both Basile and Holden because losing either of them would be brutal.

I did read that Basile has graduated already - so he may be looking to move on??

Hope I'm wrong but I don't see how Grant is here. He's been here five years already and already accomplished quite a bit. I'm not saying he'll transfer but perhaps Europe or th D-League.
Tanner is the one I worry will leave and not be replaced adequately. With Braun's development and Noel coming back, I think the team could absorb Grant leaving better than Tanner leaving.

Grant is in his 4th year here. He graduated after Fall semester and is currently in his first semester of graduate school here at Wright State. I think he will remain at Wright State next year to finish up his graduate degree or transfer to another school if he thinks he has a better chance to showcase himself for the pros. Finke should be graduating at the end of this semester. I have no idea if he will want to remain here to work on his master's degree or not.

If you follow our recruiting, it doesn't look like our staff thinks we are losing anyone. We have 1 remaining scholarship available if everyone is returning and it looks like they are going after a guard to fill with that last spot. If they thought Grant leaving was an option, you would think they would seriously be looking at post players. It doesn't look like that is the case.

Assuming everyone comes back that can, we have 1 open scholarship for next season. I have no idea if any of our current players will try to go pro after this season or if they will transfer to another school. I'm getting way too old to try to predict what 18–22-year-old men are thinking. Personally, I think it is in everyone's best interest to stay at Wright State. We weren't healthy this year. We played with a limited roster most of the year and down multiple other guys in several games due to Covid. We finished 1/2 game out of first place. We could have been HL champs if we didn't have to play at YSU with only 5 scholarship players (and still only lost by 3). Our coaching staff was not on the same page early in the year and seem to have really started to gel as the year wore on. If everyone comes back next year and stays healthy, we could have one hell of a team and that isn't even accounting for the fact we have an open scholarship where we can still add another impact player. Our top players may think about transferring to a place that they might get more exposure at but if you look at all the guys that left the HL last year, none of them really did any better at their new home. Most of the guys that left for bigger conference schools became seldomly used bench players. Our players all know that they are getting a chance to be stars at Wright State with a lot of freedom to play within our system. I hope they really consider that before they would think about transferring.
Seniors: Trey Calvin Tanner Holden CJ Wilbourn Tim Finke RS Grant Basile RS
Juniors: Andrew Welage
Sophomores: Keaton Norris AJ Braun Alex Huibregtse RS Brandon Noel RS
Freshmen: Logan Woods Drey Carter

What is happening with the new walk on?

Thanks for creating this discussion. We really just need to ensure Tanner comes back or next year might be brutal. Tanner is probably getting looks from some Power 5 conferences. Like D said, history for star HL transfers has not been great. If Nagy was able to keep Love around I'm hopeful he can do the same for Tanner. I could see him and Grant leaving. Very doubtful Trey or Finke would leave or be looked at by a school in a better situation/more promising situation.

What is happening with the new walk on? He started with the program after first semester ended and is red-shirting this year. He will be a red-shirt freshman walk-on next year.

I don't think Tim or Grant will leave after this season. From everything I have heard about them, they are both stand up type guys and I think they would have told Coach Nagy of their intention of leaving Wright State after graduating this year. If that was the case, we would have honored them on senior night this year. Things could definitely change, or I could be misjudging the type of men they are but I would be surprised if they were both not back in Raider uniforms next season.

Coach Nagy on the postgame radio show brought up how excited he is to see Trey back next season. Thinks he is going to have a monster season - hard to disagree considering how he played down the stretch this year. We're not done yet this year but there's a boatload of talent on this roster next season if everyone returns!
