Excited about Amari Davis! What kind of defender is he by the way? Doesn't have the size of Holden, but I would assume quicker, so maybe better perimeter D next season?

Hope it was Manciel decision to go with another school and not us pulling our offer. Nagy stated they should have recruited both Holden and Davis, not one or the other. Manciel could have really helped.
Still Davis addition is awesome. Trice showing his value! I'd love for us to get durkin. The team is really shaping up nicely.

I'm told Manciel picked Arkansas State because he was promised he would be a starter there and a central part of their offense. Once we signed Amari, Manciel knew he wasn't going to have the same opportunity here. His best case scenario here he would be in our rotation this year and the chance to be a starter next year. We didn't pull his offer.

I didn't see your question until this morning. Amari was a very good defender when he was in the HL. He plays physical for a guard and has quick hands and did a good job deflecting passes. He doesn't have Tanner's size but he won't be playing SF either. He will be our starting SG which will allow Finke to play his more natural position of SF. I think Davis/Finke is going to be a better defensive combo than Finke/Holden was. Holden was a very good player but he did more for the team on the offensive end of the court than he did on the defensive end.

Yesterday I was at the checkout counter at at a local grocery store and the young man at the register remarked that he liked my Wright State T-Shirt. I asked if he was a WSU student and he said he was playing Basketball for the Raiders this year. It was Anthony Johnson. I told him I had seen him play vs Centerville in the Regional HS tournament. That was a heartbreaking loss for him & his Fairmont teammates, but he said his performance in that game earned him his invitation as a spot on the roster. A perfect example of the yin and the yang. All in all, it was a brief but delightful conversation. I wished him well and I believe he will be a great representative for the University and the Raiders.

I just checked out the team roster on Wright State's website and it looks like PWO John Riddle is no longer with the team.

Does anyone have info on Brandon Noel's health? And/or Alex H.?
We've lost(2) studs to the portal, but we may have a crazy-deep team this year.

Alex and Brandon are health and have been going full go in the weight room and at practice. I expect them both to be in the rotation and I agree that we might finally have the type of depth our fan base has been hoping for.

Both can be seen in the hype clip the team put out last month of summer practice.

www.sandiegouniontribune.com/sports/toreros/story/2022-05-12/lavin-continues-to-add-players-at-usdSteve Lavin added two new pieces to his basketball rebuilding job at the University of San Diego. One is a proven Pac-12 player, the other barely saw the floor in high school but according to a former NBA player, has tremendous upside potential. Eric Williams Jr., a 6-foot-7 forward who started 32 games the past two seasons at Oregon, said Thursday that he will be transferring to USD. Alex Garcia, a 6-9 guard who saw little time at Cleveland’s St. Ignatius High, said he, too, is committing to the Toreros. ... As for Garcia, he admitted that his lack of high school playing time made him “virtually a ghost to a lot of coaches.” Garcia said as a ninth-grader at St. Ignatius he was was one of the last players off the bench on the freshman team. The next year he was cut from the program. He said he as a junior he was on the JV the entire season. As a senior in 2020-21, Garcia said he played about four minutes a game on a team that advanced to the Division I state playoff semifinals. This past season, Garcia played at two basketball academies, one in Ohio, the other in Orlando, Fla., run by former 10-year NBA veteran, Marreese Speights. Speights said that after the season Garcia played in three AAU tournaments where he was “destroying everyone.” Speights considers the 6-9 Garcia a combo shooting guard/small forward. “His future is bright because he learns,” said Speights. “He’s a sponge to the game. The last 2½ months he’s like a completely different player.” Regarding Lavin taking a chance on Garcia, Speights said, “He seems to be one of those coaches who trusts his eyes, instead of looking at social media. A lot of people nowadays don’t want to do the work. It’s going to pay off in the long run.” Of Lavin, Garcia said, “I’m going to absolutely repay him with my loyalty and hard work, help win games and hopefully we can get to the (NCAA) Tournament.”
