I logged on to our Athletic web site this evening in the hope of ordering season tickets. Unfortunately I wasn't able to do that, or at least I wasn't able to figure out how to do it. It appears that the only tickets being sold right now are Renewal tickets for previous season ticket holders. It seems to me, given the declining attendance problem, that by this time on the calendar that season tickets should be available to be purchased on the web site.
I also noticed that all season ticket holders, regardless of the level of their tickets, will have to donate at least $100 to the Raider Athletic Fund to park at any of the lots adjacent to the NC. Otherwise, you will have to park out behind the pond and either take a bus shuttle or walk to the lower entrance at the back of the Arena. This seems counter productive to me. I was a Premium ticket holder back when the NC was affectionately known as the Nut House, and a pass to Lot #1 was included in the ticket package. The lot was nearly full all the time. Now Lot 1 is maybe 1/3 full, and this policy will make it even emptier.
When I talk to casual fans about attending games, buying season tickets, etc the number 1 complaint I hear is the parking issue and the ingress and egress time it takes before and after games. I'm afraid this policy is now going to piss off our season ticket holders at a time of declining attendace when the Athletic Department should be making it easier, not harder, to park and get into the arena.

Season ticket holders get the opportunity to renew their tickets or change their seats first. It wouldn't exactly be fair to those who have had season tickets to not get the first crack at unoccupied seats. There will be plenty of time for you to get season tickets before the season starts. The parking changes don't make sense to me either. The past few seasons I've had non-premium seats that have come with a lot 2 pass. I guess they are attempting to keep some ticket prices down, while trying to incentivize people to make a $100 donation, so they might not have to walk as far. Parking in lot 8 might still be more convenient for those with seats closer to the floor since they won't have to walk up & down all the stairs or mess with the elevator.

This parking 'donation' idea is just dumb...do we not have a Marketing program anymore? I've been to countless games where the "upper" lots are half full or less and they are going to push people out to the pond and beyond?
Begging for better attendance...free tickets (for everyone including those already buying season tix)...free t-shirts (see free tickets) and then squeeze the diehards for another $100 to park in a half-empty lot closer to the arena.

You know, we can't have it both ways. We all say we want a great basketball program, and we want to play the best schedule possible. Well, it takes money to pay for a great coaching staff. It takes money to pay for our coaches to travel all over to recruit the best players we can get, and it takes money to have a good schedule. You have to bring in that money if you want to spend it. Charging money for parking is not something Wright State is doing that no one else is. I bet well over 1/2 of all D1 teams charge money to park at their arenas. I'm pretty used to paying for parking when I travel to away games to see our Raiders. Hell. I'm used to paying for parking for high school games. I don't like paying more to see WSU play, but I want a good team and coaching staff and I am willing to help pay for it. We do have a marketing department, but like our whole athletic department it is undersized and underfunded. They had a push to get new season ticket holders to put a deposit down on tickets right after our NCAA tournament run last year. (That effort got torpedoed by the horrible timing of the news that Tanner and Grant were transferring.) They have been mailing and calling previous season ticket holders the last few months to try to get them to come back. I'm sure once they finish getting our current season ticket holders to re-up, they will start a marketing campaign to get new season ticket holders. I've posted links in threads the last couple of years about how to donate to the athletic department and how to participate in our fundraising events. If we want to be able to spend more on our sports and marketing, that is where we all can put our money where our mouth is.

I should have been clearer with mine. I despise "hidden" fees. Just charge me more $$$ for the product /service and get on with it. Parking is "free" if you want to walk from the back 40...but there is a charge to park up close in a regularly half-empty lot. I just think that "forcing" such a donation is a bad look. There should either be a fee to park...or there should not. JMO.

Could be framing this as a "donation" is a way to allow an increase in ticket price - but allowing for a tax write-off to reduce the overall cost to the season ticket holder?

Dec 22 home game vs Miami (per D1 Docket)
Edit: This might actually be a road game. Rocco Miller reported on twitter that Wright State will play at Miami on Dec 22. D1 Docket still lists this as a home game for the Raiders.

I agree with you wsuwillie. I think the primary problem is how this was delivered (marketed) to their season ticket holders. If I was told 2 tickets are $500 and includes a parking pass to the upper level, a $100 value, I might have just thought nothing about it and paid the $500. Big D., while correct that we can't have it both ways, everyone wants it both ways. I want my cake AND ice cream, not cake OR ice cream.

Bottom line: if you want a top level team you have to financially support them so they have a chance to compete as a top level team. If you don’t want to financially support them you don’t have to. You can watch the games for free online but I don’t think you have the right to bitch and moan about the results on the court if you aren’t contributing to their success. I chose to support this team in the stands and with my wallet.

I'm commenting much more so to encourage simply charging more money up front for the product rather than playing this parking pass game. Regardless of the reason, it's a bad look IMO. I can think and say that without bitching and moaning. I've had (2) season tix since the Nutter opened...and added (1) each in '92 & '95 when/as I had children. I now have (5) season tix and my adult children still attend almost every home game with us...both of my children are WSU grads as am I. Supporting WSU is not an issue for me. UD designates a portion of their season tix cost as being eligible for a charitable donation - at least they used to. You pay what they charge you and THEN they tell you how much was a donation. We should follow that example IMO.

Read my post again. I never said YOU were bitching and moaning about anything. What I said was that I can’t stand when our fans bitch and moan about our schedule or performance on the court when they don’t contribute anything to the program. We have one of the poorest athletic department in the conference and we consistently are at the top of the conference in many sports. Imagine how good we could be if everyone that bitched and moaned about everything put their money where there mouth was.
