Tonight was senior night and his chance to be recognized if he was planning on leaving. Also seems like Amari Davis could potentially return as well which would be nice. Grant Basile graduated from Wright State last winter and could have participated in senior night too. We all know how that turned out for us. Trey and Amari have both said they plan on returning to Wright State next year. I think it’s obvious our entire fan base wants them back. I’m taking a wait and see approach before I get my hopes up too much. It’s easy for Trey to say he is coming back next year now and honestly meaning it. It’s much harder to stand by that decision in a couple of months when a bunch of Power 5 conference schools start throwing NIL money at him. I really hope he proves my doubts wrong. I'm cautiously optimistic that Trey and Amari are both coming back. Amari's homecoming season hasn't panned out the way he likely envisioned it, so am thinking he will want to take another whack at it. Trey mentioned in an interview somewhere that the entire team was blindsided by Holden and Basile leaving, so I feel like he may have bought into the whole "family" concept more-so than those guys. Could end up wrong, but I'm really hopeful.

What a win last night. That second half 19-1 run was awesome. Not too often that standing ovations happen so early in the game during the middle of play so early in a game but it happened there and it was well-deserved. The possession that capped it off was a Trey Calvin 3 on a possession where everyone touched the ball.
The team that showed up last night can win the Horizon League tournament. I am genuinely curious which team will show up the next 4 games. WSU needs to go at least 3-1 to climb into a top 4 seed. Huge game at Cleveland State next week.

In watching the game, I like how WSU matches up to NKU this year, especially since there is a good chance they'll meet again in the HL tourney. Welage and Alex are great passers and shooters against that zone and NKU didn't have a post presence to match up with Noel and Braun. The defense just keeps getting better too. Have to give staff for credit adjusting the rotation mid-season and sticking with it too.
Starting with NKU, WSU went 1-4 against their remaining schedule the first go round...wouldn't be shocked if WSU reverses that this time.

Anyone else notice that Tanner Holden was there last night to support his former teammates on senior night? Wonder if he is regretting his decision to leave now.

Anyone else notice that Tanner Holden was there last night to support his former teammates on senior night? Wonder if he is regretting his decision to leave now. Our family spotted Tanner about 15 rows in front of us shortly after the game started. Bob Grant came a few minutes later and talked to him, then shortly after that, Tanner got up and walked out. We spoke with him briefly, told him we missed him, as he walked by us on his way up the stairs. We thought he was going to the restroom or concession stand, but he never returned to his seat. We guessed Bob must have offered him to watch the rest of the game from either a box or some upgraded seats, and we did see him down by the bench at the end of the game. We had the same discussion amongst ourselves on whether he wished he was out there playing in that game vs. what he gets to do at OSU.
We also passed Loudon on our way out, but did not speak to him as he was engaged in a conversation. It was nice to see both of them there supporting their old teammates.

Thank you for this report! It is great that he was there to support his old teammates. I would say that most players wouldn't do this with their former team (even if they were only an hour away like it is from OSU to WSU). I had a thought earlier this week followed by an unprompted discussion with another fan about Tanner coming back to WSU next year. The bottom line is that I don't think I've ever seen it happen in college basketball so it would be unprecedented for it to take place but in this new world of a "free" transfer plus another free transfer for grad students it may happen more than never in the future at some smaller schools. But again I'm not expecting Tanner at WSU next year. I stayed well past the end of the game and saw many former WSU players including Loudon, Parker Ernsthausen, Adam Giles and others. It seems like a great community that Nagy and the players have built.

Never say never, but I have a hard time believing Tanner would be welcomed back with open arms the way he left without any kind of warning to his coaches or teammates. To be honest, we might even be a better team next year without him. Basketball is a team sport. It’s not all about having the biggest or most athletic players. Team chemistry matters so much more. Butler dominated the HL and had most of their post season success with mostly average players that played great team basketball. Their last few years in the HL they had a future NBA player on their roster but prior to that they just had average mid-major players. If Trey and everyone else with eligibility return next year, we will return a very deep and experienced team. We won’t have to spend the first 1/3 to 1/2 of the season trying to get a bunch of new players to gel and for our coaches to figure out the rotation. We should be able to hit the ground running and could have one hell of a year. That all being said, if Tanner did want to come back and our coaches and players want him back, I would welcome him back too.

Boy great win, and I like that lineup of Calvin, Alex H., Welage, Noel, and Finke. Seems like the best offensive unit the Raiders have. Calvin is an ok 3 point shooter, and Finke hasn't really been a great 3 point shooter overall, so I think to have Welage and Huibregtse on the floor more makes this a fun team to watch offensively. Takes the pressure off of Finke and you always have those 2 guys who are 40% and above 3 point shooters out there.
I think that's great Holden showed up to support his teammates. Man I feel for him. I know some Raider fans don't like the way he left, but I was hoping he'd do great at Ohio State, and wanted to drive up to Columbus to watch him play, but he's barely playing. I think a little lesson learned for Holden, but also I think the Ohio State coach is not very good overall. They have a pretty talented team. I remember reading that he thought Holden would be better in his second year with OSU before the season even started and I thought, oh that's not good news for Holden that the coach is kind of talking about him like a freshman.
I can't see him coming back. It will be interesting to see if he stays at OSU or transfers to a mid-major for his final year.
But back to WSU, excited to see how they finish. It'll be interesting to see how these teams who haven't been good in awhile, YSU and Milwaukee respond in the HL tournament with the pressure on them. Amazing Cleveland State is doing so well, I don't even know who their new coach is, but credit to them for being good this year.
