Antoine Davis misses a 3 at the buzzer that would have tied the NCAA D1 scoring record. Again, Detroit leads almost the whole game and goes cold in the last 4 minutes. 71-66 Penguins Trash schools in YSU, scrum on the floor after the handshake line. Apparently Cohill is the one who started it. Nobody should be surprised at this point.

Unfortunately, I’ll remember this season as the year we lost Holden and Basille to the transfer portal and what could have been a great team. I fear this is something teams like Wright State are going to be dealing with from now on.

I support our coach, and I hope that the dire predictions of who enters the transfer portal are misguided speculation. We'll just have to wait it out, and see what happens. I'll hope for the best.

Detroit didn't go cold. Davis jacked up long three after long three and they went clank clank clank. Five long years of it being more important for the coaches son to get his points than it was to win games. Exactly. Junior shot 7-26, 4-16 from 3. If they hadn't been feeding him the ball all night, with him chucking up those ridiculous three-point attempts, I think Detroit would have won that one.

Curious to see how many butts are in seats in Indianapolis this year.

I also hope you are right! Will gladly (gladly gladly) eat my words if all of the key players come back but that just doesn't seem to be how life at a low major is in 2023.

So how do we get better next year? Nagy has made it known he doesn’t want to build a program with the portal. Is that punting on next year and hoping the freshman and incoming guys grow for the next couple of years? That is pretty simple. He needs to figure out what his success at Wright State was built on and get back to playing that style of ball. Fans that say this team has no talent don't know their ass from a hole in the ground. This team has talent. The problem is the players we have were all recruited to play in our old system and for some unknown reason Nagy decided to go away from that system and try to play a 4 guard, run and gun system. we simply do not have the roster to play that way. YSU is made to be a run and gun offense with their athletes. We recruited our players to play in a slow it down 1/2 court system. We had our best run when we played 2 post players and 3 guards (1 being a big guard that could also rebound). We would pound the ball inside and try to get high percentage shots. If our bigs didn't have a shot they would kick it out to our guards who were all decent 3 point shooters. Our entire system was built around getting high percentage shots. Defensively, we tried to slow our opponents down with good man to man defense and try to limit them to 1 shot. We controlled the boards on both end of the court with our size. It wasn't always pretty but it was extremely successful. We have the roster to run that system successfully. I don't understand why Nagy recruited all these guys to Wright State to play that system and go completely away from it this year. If the majority of the team returns and Nagy goes back to what made us successful here, we can get back to the top of the HL. If he truly wants to play a 4 guard lineup he is going to have to implode his roster and start over because we don't have the athletes to play that way.

Well...who didn't see that coming? Finke believed he found his stroke against GB...he didn't. Nagy decided (again) that having MULTIPLE players on the court together who cannot score would work even better than always playing just one guy 30+ minutes who cannot score. Teams don't even bother to defend Finke and Norris on the perimeter. It's 4-on-5...or even 3-on-5. No wonder we can't get guys open for good looks.
I've put up with Ed Schilling and Donlon...put up with guys getting big minutes regardless of how outright BAD they were/are...but I know that Nagy knows the game. I know that he knows players...but what he did this year is inexcusable...and he doubled down on it all year long. It's baffling.
I about lost my mind when he put Wilbourn in the game. He thought that would "show" the players his displeasure. So petty. Then Sisley gets a cameo after inexplicably playing scant minutes for the last half of the entire year...not to return. What the hell was that about?! Just play your best players and you won't have to resort to such self-inflicted BS. He reluctantly saw the path in the NKU home game. It was there ALL YEAR LONG. It was obvious who was usually on the court when we gave up big runs. How could he/they not see it?
So not stoked for next year. I'm expecting Norris to change his number to 24 for next year...that's the number you want so you get to play 30+ minutes regardless of whether you are a D1 player or not.

What an embarrassing game. Not sure who to root for the rest of the conference tournament, definitely isn’t Milwaukee. Hey, if we win the whole tournament you can say you were the best team to lose in the quarterfinals. I used to say this to myself when we'd lose...well I say this to myself when we lose. Kudos to them for manufacturing a crowd like this. They are loud and milwaukee is feeding off it and we’re wilting. We needed to have a hot start to take them out of it. We really haven’t seen anything like this all year Why don't they always play there? The Klotsche Center was built in the early 70's as an intramural facility. It's a glorified high school gym. Do we need a smaller building? Sure. But next year we'll be averaging roughly double what the Klotsche holds.

Klotsche holds 3,500 for basketball. Attendance for a hyped league tournament game just broke 2,900 and the season average was 1,748 (thanks, 09). And they’re expecting 7,000 on AVERAGE next year? That would be incredible.

100% chance Detroit plays in one of those pay-to-play end of season tournaments so Davis can break the record, right?
