Well tough way to go out for WSU, but expected overall. Milwaukee had the better team, season, and playing at home. Kind of amazing WSU beat them twice this year. They had the incentive to win this game.
Just not Wright State's year. It does seem like the Horizon League was better this year, so for the league that is good. For the top 4 teams to make the Quarterfinals it should provide for some good games. Personally, I'm rooting for NKU or Youngstown State to make it. I think NKU represents the league well, and for YSU fans it would be fun for them to make the tourney.
I don't know, Milwaukee, and CSU just don't excite me much, but they've actually had tourney success. I don't know if CSU could compete as a 15 seed, but I feel like a few of the other teams could maybe give a 2 seed a game in the NCAA tourney.
If I'm not mistaken, Milwaukee, CSU,and YSU have a lot of transfers that came in this year, maybe especially YSU? It might get tougher for Nagy to compete if he can't bring in impact transfers in today's game.
I think Amari Davis not having the season quite expected really kind of lowered the expectations for this team. Not trying to blame Davis overall...he's had a really good college career overall, but early in the year if you were expecting Davis to average 14-15ppg along with Calvin, the Raiders were going to be tough to beat most nights. It just didn't pan out.
I think the big thing is who stays, and who goes. Even with not one of his great teams, they win 18 games. I think Nagy stays around. Sometimes he seems like he's ready to retire, or is stressed I think overall. He has a good gig overall where there isn't a ton of pressure, a good fan base, good money, but I know it's had to be frustrating for him as it always seems that his teams are one-two players away from being a team that could win in the NCAA tourney and they just can't quite get to that point.
But hopefully Calvin, Noele, Hubrigste, Welage, Braun, the rest of the guys stay around. I don't know if the expectation is that Calvin stays, or seeks to transfer, play professionally? I assume he could play in a Foreign professionalleague for good money this upcoming year. I love the Raiders, but if I was Trey Calvin I would think that maybe I'd be ready to start my professional career. We'll see!

Normally, I would agree with you 100% on this. But no way in hell do I want Dwayne Cohill representing our league on the national stage. He makes an ass of himself every time he steps on the court. I think NKU and Milwaukee are our best bets, but I will suck it up and root for whoever represents the Horizon League in the Dance.

I didn't know about Cohill, but I'll take your word for it! Yeah Milwaukee could be a tough out too.

The nku v ysu game is awful. HL is still trash.

I came in late. Was an announcement made that it isn't a foul if two defenders hammer you at the same time?

How did we lose to YSU twice? NKU does not have a good roster. Frustrating to watch.

It's just that YSU has never had success and their best player isnt exactly a good sport or disciplined Im glad NKU is putting on them if it's not WSU.

I'm glad their getting popped. They play with a lot of arrogance, especially Cohill. Though YSU was a projected 15 seed, I wouldn't put it past anyone else to be a 16 or potentially playing in Dayton. I have a lot less hate for NKU in this season than I do YSU.

Wouldn't be the HL Tournament without a boat load of fouls and players being disqualified.

I think they are pretty talentless but they do play good d for no talent. I'm hoping uwm can win out and kill nku.

Milwaukee has the same problem as YSU, lack of discipline, completely out of control at times and it costs them games.

This hasn't been very exciting basketball tonight (other than for the teams who won obviously). Another year of a largely empty arena, and another year of the top seeds not getting the job done. I don't have a perfect memory, but I believe the #1 seed has only won the tournament once or twice since going to the neutral format what, a decade ago?
This league needs to get back to rewarding it's number one seed, getting great crowds to show up for the semifinal and championship games, and protect their highest seeds. We're looking at another year with a 16 seed and possibly another play-in appearance, and that doesn't really get us anywhere. None of these teams are have the talent to compete with a number one seed. It's really a shame watching these paltry turnouts on tv year in and year out followed by a bludgeoning to a 1 or 2 seed.

When it comes to conference expansion, they are our direct competition trying to get into a better conference.

One more comment, and I'm not saying that I've noticed this necessarily tonight, but there's an awful lot of chatter about whistles tonight on other boards. The league puts these teams in front of some of the dumpiest, least senior referees in the country all season long. Once in a while we'll see a good official or two on a Friday (due to relative quiet nights around the world of college ball). But it seems like a bit of a disservice to the players and coaches to play games all season long against inferior officiating, and then tonight, you've got 5 of these 6 officials being top-notch guys (DJ Carstensen, Courtney Green, Steve McJunkins, John Floyd, & Chris Beaver all commonly seen in p5 conference, mostly the Big10, Big East, SEC, and ACC), and then there's a lot of frustration by players and coaches about the whistles not being consistent, but then they send all the usual officials to the unemployment list. (Ironically the one HL "normal" official that was on the court tonight was Mike Kitts Jr. who is the son of 30-year big10 veteran Mike Kitts, so maybe some preferential treatment there).
The veteran-ness of the HL officials has gotten worse and worse over the last decade. It seems like we get these guys from lower levels, and they come right to the HL. It'd be splendid if we weren't the bottom of the barrel and could regularly get more quality officials, and get them to stick around. (Not that I'm saying there's anything wrong with the officiating tonight, both these games were blowouts). I see guys like the Simpson brothers, Pat Adams, Kipp Kissinger, Mike Roberts, etc. who all started in this league 10-15 years ago and got out as quick as they could now doing major matchups and final fours. Anyways, end of rant.
So we're pro-CSU tomorrow then?
