That was my thought too but I think everyone did tonight except for Wright State. Lots of reasons for that... obviously a fair amount of night class tonight. The school didn't have advance notice that we'd be playing this game to get the word out to the students. Obviously they couldn't scrap together a promo, pregame, etc. due to the limited time constraint and quite possibly due to league rules. Also, I'm sure there's lots of night class ongoing that isn't going to stop for a first-round game. Lastly, this team really limped into the tournament losing 3 of their last 4. Playing an opening round home game is certainly uncharted territory for us, so the fact we had to play a 3 win team at home isn't likely to excite much of anyone. It was OUR WORST attended game of the season; worse than Defiance, worse than Northwest Ohio. The school probably can't hand tickets out like candy to surrounding businesses and WPAFB, it's a school night, there's other sporting events going on tonight as well...just a myriad of reasons why people didn't show up. Or more simply, it’s spring break.

The quarter system was the way to go as a student!

I guess I'll just never understand the whole "get the word out to the students" thing. When I was a student (back in the PE Building days), the games were about the only thing to do, and me and my friends went to every game. There are a whole lot more students living on campus these days than there were back then, too. Of course, when I was a student, you could also walk down the middle of Zink Road at night (on way to Kellers!) and not worry about getting hit by a car...maybe there are more choices for the more students these days, but I just wish they would come on their own!

I think there are too many other entertainment options nowadays. Not to mention the kids that may follow the team can watch the game in their room while also doing “homework.”

Haven't ventured over to Milwaukee's board but can't imagine they are too keen on seeing us again. I remember the game thread for our last game there were many comments about how they'd rather not see us again and they could just continue on their quest to winning the league this year.
Our guys should be confident enough to go there and get a W. Get to Indy on a neutral court and we should have a decent shot of continuing on. Certainly sets up a lot nicer than it could have for this tournamenet as the 7 seed all things considered. Maybe we can salvage this season.

When the tournament bracket as announced, I was really excited. I thought GB gave us the best chance of winning of the 3 teams (GB, IUPUI, and PFW). The good news for us is that Detroit won, and here's why. Detroit kept YSU extremely close in both of their prior matchups this year. YSU prevailed by 5 up at Calihan, but Detroit let most of the first half, spent the majority of the second half down 8-10 points before storming back late in the second half. Up at Beeghly (after the game in Detroit), the Titans controlled the first 30 minutes of the game, when YSU went on a 19-3 run to put it away between the under 12 and under 4 timeouts. All of that to say, Detroit led for roughly 60% of the minutes, but the Penguins took both wins.
All of that to say Detroit CAN compete with YSU, and IF they can pull off the upset, then they would get the tougher matchup in the semis (very likely CSU unless they were to fall to RMU), and we'd get the Oakland NKU winner, which is a better matchup for us seed-wise, but also a better matchup for us athletics-wise. A Detroit-CSU matchup and a WSU-OAK/NKU matchup really works for us better than a WSU-YSU matchup in my opinion.
Detroit can pull it off, and we should be rooting for it to happen. We all know the #1 seed has had an awful go of it in this tournament since moving to a neutral site, so bring on the chaos! Obviously all of that to say that WE need to win too...

Feel very good about how Noel is trending and was glad to see Finke and Norris play well. But I don't feel confident about WSU chances against UWM if Norris again plays more minutes than Huibregtse and Welage.

If there's one thing I've been critical of this year it has been the defense of individual players including Amari Davis. He had one of the most exciting blocks I can remember by a WSU guard last night and multiple deflections. Loved seeing the energizing defense.
Key moment was the Noel 3 after the ball was fumbled around. Believe it expanded the lead from 7 to 10 and was an absolute back-breaker.
Surprised to see WSU is 2.5-Point favorite tomorrow on the road.

I agree that things seemed to really start going better for us after that fumble recovery and 3 pointer.

But I don't feel confident about WSU chances against UWM if Norris again plays more minutes than Huibregtse and Welage. Norris had 25 minutes against GB. That was the 4th highest on the team. Davis had 17. (When we walloped NKU at home, Norris played 4-5 minutes...as did Davis.) That ^ would be fine if the plan was to rest other starters...yet Finke had 36...Calvin 35...and Noel 34. It makes zero sense to me. To my eye, Nagy was more animated coaching that GB game than any other this year. He was on the court and near mid-court extolling the defense in a 20 point blowout. He wants that 4 guard lineup with Norris and Davis to work...it simply does not. We suffered through such a situation when Jaylon Hall was here. He was awful with zero bball IQ...yet he couldn't come off the court...while Malachi Smith and Sykler Potter sat on the bench. The insistence on playing Finke 35+ minutes a game is baffling. It's too painful to go down the Vest brothers infatuation on the court. My concern after the GB pummeling is that Finke will think he found his stroke and Nagy will think that the Norris/Finke/Davis combo is an effective one. We can't afford to let UM go on those runs that we so love to give up. We've seen what lineups work and what lineups don't work. Maybe it's different in practice...but we don't win or lose actual games in practice...despite the cliche' that claims otherwise.

Don't forget we ended up losing both of those players to the transfer portal who went on to put up some really good numbers in their careers. Not saying correlation is necessarily causation, but you can't ignore the optics. If the fans notice it, the kids riding the pine are probably noticing it too.

We haven’t had the best luck in high school gyms this year and it seems like they’re expecting a full house…general admission tickets only??
