Congratulations to Brandon Noel, Horizon League's freshman of the year. And to Trey Calvin, for making the first team all league.
This is what they had to say about Brandon:
Wright State’s Noel ended the regular season averaging 12.8 points per game and 8.7 rebounds while also garnering four #HLMBB Freshman of the Week honors en route to being named Freshman of the Year. The Lucasville, Ohio native was the only player to average a double-double during League play with 13.4 points and a League-best 10.1 rebounds per contest. Noel also led all players during HL play in field goal percentage at 60.0 to go along with 1.2 blocks per game. During League play, he registered 10 double-digit rebounding games, eight double-doubles and four 20-point outbursts including a 32-point, 12-rebound performance at Green Bay in January. Noel is the first Raider to win the award since Loudon Love in 2018.
And about Trey:
Calvin is a first-team honoree for the first time in his career averaging 21.1 points, third-best in the HL, on 48.4 percent shooting with 3.2 assists and 1.3 steals per game during League play.

Seems to me that Calvin was a slam dunk for the first team all-league. I'm not surprised by Noel; a few guys from IUPUI had some good weeks, but in the end, I think Noel was much more consistent than they were, and we finished much higher in the standings that IUPUI which also certainly helps his case.
I'm not really surprised we didn't have anyone on the all-defensive team, but I thought if Noel was going to be on the all-Freshman team, that Braun might get a look for 3rd team since Noel wasn't going to be put on any other team because he was on all-freshman team (cop out by the voters), but alas, he didn't. One of our quieter years when it comes to the all-league teams, but our performance on the court certainly dictates that.

This is our 7th straight year with a player on the league's First Team.
2023: Calvin 2022: Holden 2021: Love 2020: Love 2019: Love 2018: Benzinger 2017: Alstork
This kind of consistent success is great to see. If Calvin sticks around next year, he should already be close to the front-runner for POTY.

How is it possible that Finke wasn’t a member of the all defensive team?
