it seems to me that the defense has decreased. Maybe the defensive philosophy may need to change. Build a defense to match the personnel and stop trying to fit a square plug in a round hole. I think sing more zone type defenses and varying from zones to man to man might decrease the effectiveness of the opponents offense. He has become totally predictable in the approach to defense.
Bill Self became a great coach by early in career he learned to design offense and defense for personnel you have. The same is true of other coaches who have become in the great coach category.
I remember watching Self with teams at Tulsa and how he changed what the ran offensively and defensively to match up with the players. That success earned him the honor for Kansas to look to him to be their Head Coach.
