Once again WSU gives up 50+ points in the second half. Seems like almost half of our games that has happened, and probably 60% of the D1 opponents. This broken record is getting very old.
Somehow, someway they need to figure out a way to hold the opponent in the low to mid 30s in the second half as they do in the first. Because somewhere in every 2nd half, when we stop scoring for a couple minutes (or 7 if its GB...), the other team catches up and/or pulls away.

Same story over and over and over and over. At some point Nagy is going to HAVE to try something different. That different should start with a zone defense. We simply do not have the athleticism to play man-to-man. Watching Braun follow 'his' man to the foul line and then getting beat at the rim is maddening. (I REALLY like Braun.) That's not really his fault. Don't put him - or others - in positions to NOT succeed.
We cannot effectively guard the opposing guard(s) at the perimeter on-on-one either...we just can't. We get switched on and beat to the rim repeatedly...or we give up wide open 333. I know man-to-man is the better defense...I get that...we just don't have the horses to do it.
If we are going to have 4 guys playing 30+ minutes/game along with our 'lesser' athleticism, what the hell do we think is going to happen?
Why didn't Drew play in the second half? Our super seniors combined for 7 turnovers...it felt like 12. We should be better than this.

Happy New Year Raiders folk....in the DDN article Nagy once again essentially said it wouldn't matter if it's zone or man. In reading his quotes the last few articles, I legit believe he more and more doesnt thinks this is his fault or that as HC he is largely responsible for this defensive mess. He now alluded to pulling guys who don't buy in....whether he will or not depends. Normally, I'd agree that this is on the players not doing what they are coached to do. But it's obvious they physically cannot execute what they are being asked to do defensively. If the losing continues another couple weeks, I would not be shocked to see guys leave the program and the wheels totally come off. We all want this turned around as Raider fanatics, and it still can but it's going to require people that haven't shown a willingness to change to change.

We all want this turned around as Raider fanatics, and it still can but it's going to require people that haven't shown a willingness to change to change. I had to re-read that Nagy quote a few times because I couldn't believe he said it. For reference here is the exact wording from the DDN: Hey Nagy, the opponents field goal percentage isn't just magically high. It's because your man-to-man defense sucks. One man gets beat and then everyone else shifts trying to pick up someone else's man and the opponent gets a wide open shot. Try switching defenses before saying it doesn't matter. Because you recruit offensive players and try to teach them defense, you should get little credit for any offense and points scored, but the majority of the credit for all the defense and points given up. Nagy has a history of being a good coach, but his inability to adjust has led to this. He needs to be willing to change defensive schemes; He needs to change his recruiting to have at least one lockdown defender on the roster at all times; He needs to use the transfer portal at least a little bit more when the team has immediate needs. Nagy recruited this roster that is comprised of mostly skinny guys who can shoot, but lack athleticism, physicality, size, etc. The defense sucked last year and to a lesser extent the year before. Nagy could have used the transfer portal to seriously pursue a lockdown defender or big man who could be a rim protector, but he didn't. I'm not ready to give up my season tickets yet as I still have optimism for future seasons, largely due to the incoming recruiting class and some of the young guys already on the roster. Things have to change though. I really wish the young players could at least be gaining more experience, rather than watching upperclassmen get outhustled and burnt on defense.

1- Start defending outside the 3 point line; we start defending inside the line. Teams are popping in 3's before they even get to our defenders. 2- Play more players. Rotate 5 new guys in every 4 minutes. Mistakes will be made, but at least guys will have game experience that will be of benefit for us. 3- If you must criticize a player, do it privately. Trey is doing what you asked of him in the DDN article. How's that working out? 4- Start giving away tickets to get some people in the Nutter Center.

As critical as I have been, I'll still renew my tickets. I'm not sure what positives there are though. Looks like a great 2024 recruiting class but would any of them even play? I can't tell if Carter, Logan or Brown will be good since they never play. I really like the individuals on this team, they all seem like great people. Realistically though I think this whole roster can turnover outside of Noel. Hopefully things will get better. At least drinks are half off in the raider pub to help numb the pain!

I like Nagy, think he's probably the best WSU Coach ever in many regards, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's not at Wright State within the next few years whether he retires or moves on. I don't see him getting fired unless the Raiders just really stunk for several years. But I think the transfer portal, NIL and everything, I worry he's not going to be able to adapt to it all to have NCAA type of teams. This looks like potentially another mediocre year, which does happen, so it's not like the program is going down the drain, and they'll still probably have a winning record, and have a chance of course in the HL Tournament.
I think the team/program is in some ways not too exciting from a fan perspective. Calvin and Holden are Raiders greats, but it doesn't seem they're good enough to carry this team to greatness like I think many thought they could. Of course still a lot of time left in the season.

When will Nagy learn to trust his players and give the backups more minutes? I really think this team is getting blown out in the second half of games because they get tired. To play good defense one must ramp up the intensity and that uses up a lot of energy. Concerning point 4, students get season tickets with their tuition. The University should make it easier for the students to get paper tickets that they can give away to family and friends that would like to attend the games.

From my view point, a good coach will recruit good players and a great coach will develop a defense and offense that fits the players on the team. I agree with many previous posts regarding the portal. I’m not sure coach puts forth much effort in working with the portal. I just get the idea, he really would like to retire and spend time with family. I haven’t seen much in last two years about the team being like family with him.
