I was pleasantly surprised by the crowd tonight, especially given the cold temps. Jamison was quite the cry baby tonight -- even had a little tantrum, slapping the floor several times when sitting on the ground under the basket at one point (while the rest of his team was running back down the court on defense). Besides getting hammered on the boards, good all around effort tonight, especially in the second half. Agree on both points. Their whole team was whiny most of the game, led by the coach who was going after the officials every time out. Great crowd.

The starters played a ridiculous number of minutes last night...especially in the second half. I can find a way to understand why...but that doesn't change the fact that that isn't sustainable.
That said I was pleased to see AJ get more minutes...him being in the game caused problems for UMW.
Woods and Carter will be key cog guys next year...and they need some significant run if we are going to build up a team for the tournament THIS year. We are not going to win squat in the tournament with 4 of 5 starters playing 37 minutes per game.

We are not going to win squat in the tournament with 4 of 5 starters playing 37 minutes per game. This team is a .500 team and will be a .500 team at the end of the year. Nothing is improving with the defense and Nagy is getting more and more like the Nagy of old and isn’t using his bench. For how it is affecting this year’s team, quite frankly is doesn’t matter. This team is going to finish around .500 and will get knocked out of their first or second HL tournament game once the shooting goes cold. This impacts next year more than anything because those bench players that aren’t getting minutes are going to be expected to step into starting roles and win games next year. I don’t see it happening. Nagy isn’t going to bring in an impact transfer or JUCO for next year. Our income freshmen will all redshirt because that is what Nagy does. I don’t see a turnaround this year or next with the way he runs his program and I don’t see him being here after next year because Bob Grant can’t afford to let our flagship program slip into mediocrity because we have a dinosaur for a coach.

Quite frankly I enjoyed watching the women’s team much more than the men’s team yesterday. Coach Nagy might want to sit down with our women’s team coach and get some insight on how she rebuilt their roster from nothing mixing high school recruiting with a whole bunch of girls from the portal trying to find girls that fit her system and how she builds team chemistry. Nagy’s roster has a lot of square pegs that he is trying to fit into round holes. He needs to figure out a way to rebuild his roster and probably a good portion of his coaching staff if he wants to play his style of ball. This team is not built to play his style of ball and I doubt Bob Grant is going to give him 3-4 more years to rebuild his roster to get it there the way Nagy likes to build his roster through high school kids and the redshirt process.

The sky is falling, the sky is falling! Last night was a fun game to watch -- there were plenty of timeouts to let folks catch their breath. I can't predict the future, but I am hoping OG Raiderfan gets to eat his words about the .500 team at the end of the year. We'll see, but I haven't given up hope yet.

I think most Raider fans have given up hope based on the lack of activity you normally see on the board this time of year. We are 10-10, and really 8-10 vs D1 competition. We just played a game where we played most of our starters 37+ minutes. Even if I was delusional enough to think this team had turned the corner, playing your entire starting lineup marathon minutes like that is a recipe failure. How many of our actual good teams fell apart at the end of the year do to fatigue from not using our bench in the past and those were good teams that put an effort in on both ends of the court. This year’s team plays like an undisciplined AAU team that does a bunch of scoring but doesn’t even try to play defense.

I admit I have not been that optimistic about this team lately. But was encouraged about more team play and fewer one on one plays. I do hope this continues.

Looking at the reat of the schedule, I see league wins at 11-13 games. Really depends on if they can at least split OU and NKU. 13-7 would get them a 4 seed, which means a bye and then hosting a 2nd round game. As maddening as this team is defensively, getting a top 4 seed ( admittedly still disappointing) will position them for a 3 game run. If the finish 5th or worse, that's no Bueno come HL tourney time.

I think it makes sense to have hope after some of the moments we’ve witnessed in which this team appears to be elite. When the shots are falling. I guess what I’m saying is I’m surprised but it could be worse. At least we have the firepower. Another thing I find interesting is that we’ve never found ourselves down by much outside of Colorado state. Its always just giving away leads. Lends to the idea that players are tired. Open up the bench.

I was also surprised to see in the box score that 4 starters played 37 or 38 minutes. Nagy's explanation postgame of why the starters played the whole second half made total sense. There were so many stoppages for the shot clock malfunctions, MKE calling timeouts, lots of fouls, etc. that they all got plenty of rest without missing playing time. Anyone at the game couldn't help but notice all the stopage time. Nagy also said he didn't think Logan was fully recovered from the ankle injury, so that is partly why he is limiting his minutes.

Coach Hoffman has done a great job thru the transfer portal, especially with talent originally from Ohio. The women's team rebuild also had an advantage the men's team doesn't have. They got 3 of those transfers from local kids who may well have wanted to come to WSU originally, but they were not recruited by the prior coach. When a player has to go to Akron or Long Island, it may be easier to recruit them back to 15-20 miles from home. They also got 3 transfers from Div 2 schools who had played in the same conference against Coach Hoffman, so the coaching staff could target who they wanted and knew exactly what they would be getting, and the recruit knew what the playing style would be plus got the opportunity to show they could play at the D-1 level. Again, great job by Coach Hoffman, but I don't see Coach Nagy going after D-2 players (he did get one as a walk on though, thanks to Coach Hoffman recruiting the girlfriend).

The talent is there. I'm just not sure we can keep the level of defensive intensity required game in and game out. And I'm certain we can't win 3 games in the tournament by shooting 65%, we'll have to hold somebody in the low 70s when the shooters come down to earth.

5398 attendance was the best so far this year. Hopefully our fans will keep coming. Coach Nagy Agrees
