Dang would have liked to see Anderson play. Wish him the best. Love our players but tbh now that our best two are graduating, I don't think it matters who we lose. We have been mid two years in a row and I'm not seeing much progress. Mostly Nagys fault for not developing the bench. He needs to adjust and bring him some actual talent from the portal.

I’m curious why someone that redshirted would transfer. Was it not communicated that they wouldn’t play their first year? Not good enough in practice and told to search for something else?

That would be my guess. I would expect for him to commit to a d2 school. Similar to Anthony Johnson last year. I think the coaching staff likes to take a shot at a local kid each year.

Anthony Johnson was a walk on. Anderson was on scholarship and was targeted in the early signing period last year. He is someone we wasted a lot of time and money on to get nothing in return for.

Well at least we preserved his redshirt for his next school so they can get the full benefit of his services. /tic

This is why I wish Coach Nagy would quit red-shirting the freshman all the time. I'm sure there are cases where it is necessary to build strength because they are not ready. But High school players are starting to do a lot for their bodies these day to be ready for D1 basketball. The majority of players do not like to sit and will transfer out if they do not get to play. Non-conference is the time to see if these players have what it takes to make it in D1. After KK didn't have quite the year we all were hoping he would have, maybe one of these other freshman that were sitting out could have came in and filled that role better and gotten some experience. Coach was going to redshirt AJ Braun, and now he is transferring. We would have lost a scholarship and wasted a year on him if they had they not pulled his red shirt his freshman year. With the portal and no repercussions for transferring, there is no reason to red-shirt players, because they end up not staying for that extra year if they are good anyway, and we do not see the benefit. Mid-majors are getting better freshman these days because the bigger programs are poaching the mid-majors in the portal and not risking their futures on promising freshman. This is why you sign freshman and play them. That is just my opinion. Coach needs to rethink his red-shirt theory and if players leave fill those spots with portal players. That seems to be the way of the future in NCAA.

I swear I read an interview with Welage just a month or two ago that made it seem like he was coming back here for 1 more year. I hope this is Nagy telling people to look for other opportunities and him making changes to where the roster was flawed. Wish nothing but the best for Welage and hope he gets a chance somewhere.

I believe I heard it early in the season on the coaches radio show-- Andrew planned on using his extra (COVID) year of eligibility next year at WSU. He had some injury & illness towards the end of the season, but never got back to much playing time. I'm disappointed to see him leave, but I can't blame him. I feel he was completely underutilized.

My predictions just for fun
Braun mid tier D1 (A10,big east?)
Welage Indiana?? Or a smaller D1, somewhere in Indiana.
Anderson D2
Good luck to all.

Hate to see a Dayton Native in the transfer portal, especially a freshman. We have 2. Our only 2 scholarship players from the 937.

He somehow regressed each year and was pretty bad outside the Indiana game. A lot of bad decisions. I was a Welage stan but he just didn't have it.

That's fair. He shoots a good 3 percentage. I think that gives him some leverage but I respect that opinion and you are probably wright.
