It would be nice if we could keep Donoher as our third assistant. I think he would fit in well with our new coaching staff.

May 01, 2006 (News Release/Men's Basketball) Brownell Hires Two May 4, 2006 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TRANSACTION NOTE: Wright State hires Marty McGillen and Bill Donlon as men’s basketball assistant coaches. Brownell Hires Two Wright State University men’s basketball coach Brad Brownell named two assistant coaches today with the hiring of Marty McGillan and Bill Donlon, both of his former staff at UNC-Wilmington. “I am ecstatic that I will be able to work with these two fine men again,” Brownell said. “They know the system and bring a wealth of valuable experiences with them that will make this transition much easier.” McGillen, a native of Silver Spring, Md, was an assistant coach under Brownell at UNCW for four years, helping him in all aspects of coaching and recruiting. A 1990 graduate of UNCW, McGillen also has been a division I assistant coach at Eastern Carolina, The Citadel and College of Charleston. "We're very happy to have Marty join our program,” Brownell said. He has a great deal of Division I experience. Marty also is very well known among his peers and respected for his work ethic, knowledge of the game and integrity. He will bring a great deal of passion and pride to the program." Donlon, a former UNCW player who just finished his fourth season under Brownell as an assistant for the Seahwaks, played an integral role in the success at Wilmington. The Northbrook, Ill., native returned to his alma mater after completing a professional playing career in Germany and coaching stints at American and St. Peter's. “As a former player and coach at UNCW, he understands what it takes to build a successful program,” Brownell said. “His experience on successful college teams and playing professionally overseas as well as his infectious enthusiasm will benefit our players greatly.” Donlon received one of the CAA's most prestigious honors in his senior year. He was selected as the recipient of the Dean Ehlers Award for Leadership, presented annually to the player who embodies the highest standards of leadership, integrity and sportsmanship through academic and athletic achievements. Brownell hopes to round out his staff in the near future with an addition of a third assistant coach and a Director of Basketball Operations. www.wsuraiders.com/cgi-bin/athletics/news.cgi?action=features&id=2813

July 05, 2006 Brownell Hires TownsendAdrian Townsend, formerly an assistant coach at Eastern Michigan University, has been named an assistant coach for the Wright State University men’s basketball program, first-year WSU head coach Brad Brownell announced today. As an assistant coach at EMU from 2002-05, Townsend’s major responsibility was the recruitment of high school and junior college players from the Midwest, especially in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania. Also included in his duties were practice and game coaching, monitoring academic progress, community involvement and summer basketball camps. “I am very happy to have Adrian on board with us at Wright State,” Brownell said. “His background in recruiting from the Midwest areas makes him a natural for our program as well as his experiences on and off the court. He played and coached under a fine coach at California-Pennsylvania in Jim Boone. He will be a great asset to the Raider program.” Before EMU, the Pittsburgh native was the director of basketball operations at Duquesne University for one year and assistant basketball coach at St. Francis (PA) College, Mansfield University and his alma mater. He graduated from CU-PA with a bachelor’s degree in urban affairs in 1991 and has also held financial and computer-related positions in the private sector. Brownell, hired in early April from UNC-Wilmington, hired two assistants from his former school immediately in Marty McGillan and Bill Donlon. He hopes to round out his staff in the near future with the hiring of a director of basketball operations and an administrative assistant. www.wsuraiders.com/cgi-bin/athletics/news.cgi?action=features&id=2890

WSU hoops hires new assistantBy Marc Katz Staff Writer FAIRBORN — Adrian Townsend has been hired by head coach Brad Brownell and added to the Wright State University men's basketball staff. Townsend was an assistant coach at Eastern Michigan for three seasons through 2005. A Pittsburgh native, Townsend played at California University of Pennsylvania from 1986-90 and was his team's MVP as well as an All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference selection. Before coaching at EMU, he was director of basketball operations at Duquesne and an assistant coach at St. Francis, Pa.; Mansfield (Pa.) University and his alma mater. Last year, Townsend worked for New Horizons Computer Learning Centers in Ypsilanti, Mich. Townsend joins Marty McGillan and Bill Donlon, two coaches who were on Brownell's staff at North Carolina-Wilmington, and completes the WSU staff. "His background in recruiting from the Midwest areas makes him a natural for our program," Brownell said of Townsend. Positions still to be filled are the director of basketball operations and an administrative assistant. Eastern Michigan was 37-71 while he was there. Does that impress you?

I hear Townsend recruited the Detroit area real well, even for a school like EMU, and there certainly are some good players in Detroit, as we can attest to at Wright State. So I think you should wait and see what the guy can do before you judge him.

I'm not sure you can judge an assistent coach based on the schools record. I'd say it is almost impossible to win at Eastern Michigan and the head coach is the one to blame. Not the third assistent.

I do not know Brownell's philosophy on Jucos, but I wonder if Townsend still has a relationship with Darryl Garrett, a Rivals and Adidas top 100 player in HS that he helped sign to EMU. Garrett was a Michigan 1st team Class A (big school) player and Detroit Public school's Mr Basketball. Darryl left EMU for academic reason and transferred to Schoolcraft CC (Tyrone Scott and Kevin Melson's old school). Garrett graduated from Schoolcraft this past year and is looking at Minnesota, Tennessee, Charlotte, UNLV, Wyoming. He averaged 28pts and 12 rebounds his senior year of HS, and scored around 30 pts for EMU on several occasions his freshman year. At schoolcraft he averaged 11 pts, 4 rebs, 2.8 assists and 1.5 steals, 40% from 3, and 84% from the charity stripe. jucojunction.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?pr_key=44001&Sport=2

Garrett would be a nice pickup this late in the year. Brownell's motion offense relies on solid outside shooting. Garrett could be another piece of the puzzle for us. Nice find bballraider.

Adrian Townsend sounds like a good addition to me. Anyone that can recruit Michigan's Mr. Basketball to EMU should do well for us at Wright State.
Welcome to Wright State Coach Townsend!
