Success seems to follow graduated members of last year's McKinley High School boys basketball team that won two straight titles.
Five former Bulldogs have or are looking to extend their first college seasons into national tournaments.
"Our paths, how we got here, it's made us appreciate the game more than other players," said Marcus Parker, a freshman point guard at NCAA Division II Findlay. "We all know what we can do."
Parker has helped Findlay win 27 straight heading into this weekend's Great Lakes regional tournament.
Two former Bulldogs - Todd Brown and Kyrk Freeman - have claimed spots in national tournaments.
Brown has helped make Wright State into one of the country's top success stories in Division I. The Raiders upset Butler twice in the past month, securing the Horizon League's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Brown earned a spot on the league's all-newcomer team.
"Every one of us, since we were younger, we've all been competitive with each other ... at practice, just on neighborhood courts," Brown said last month. "We bring a winning attitude where ever we go."
Freeman leads Northland Community and Technical College of Minnesota into next week's National Junior College Athletic Association Division III national tournament. He is averaging 17 points, picking up a number of conference honors in helping Northland go 27-4.
Also enjoying success at the junior college level is Ricky Jackson at Cloud County in Kansas. He averages 14.8 points and earned freshman of the year honors in the Western Division of the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference. His team plays Sunday in the NJCAA Region VI Tournament.
Another Bulldog, Sedelle Broyles, helped his junior college team win 20 games. He averaged 4.1 points at Owens Tech in Toledo.
The most prominent former Bulldog is Raymar Morgan of Michigan State. Though his Spartans lost to Wisconsin in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals Friday, they still hope to earn an NCAA Tournament bid. Morgan made the league's all-freshman team selected by the coaches.
