Almost all of our new players for next year are officially enrolled in classes now and listed in the student directory. Ronnie Thomas and John David Gardner were already with the team last year after transferring. It was also announced in another thread that Scott Grote enrolled for summer classes. I just checked and Troy Tabler, Cooper Land, Kyle Pressley, and Gavin Horne are also now listed in the student directory. The only incoming player not listed in the student directory is N'Gai Evans. Welcome aboard Raiders!!!!!!!!!!!!! www.wright.edu/search/

I love when incoming players enroll early. They get an extra 2-3 months of practice time with their new teammates.

It's nice to know almost everyone's in the fold now. We don't need to go into September and have another Mark Surgalski nightmare.

Who was Mark Surgalski?

He was an Ed Schilling recruit who quit school the first week of his freshman year. We were counting on him to be an impact player.

I heard MS had his car packed to come to WSU and then couldn't do it. That was amazing.

Heck, he was up here for less than a week. Said he saw a fight outside the dorm and it scared him and said he couldn't stay at a place like this....or something close to that! That was unreal. Bottom line, he just wanted to run home to mommy and thought of any excuse he could. Pitiful.

He will be playing his senior year at Georgetown College this year. He sat out last year as a medical redshirt. March 16, 2007 Surgalski to Get Another Year of Eligibility
Senior Mark Surgalski's medical appeal to the NAIA has been approved, giving the Ashland, KY native one more year of eligibility. After being plagued by back problems at the beginning of the fall term, Surgalski underwent several back surgeries and was unable to compete this season.www.georgetowncollegeathletics.com/Headlines/2007/3.16-2.htmI like this quote from his bio: Full name is Mark David Surgalski…Nickname is Ski…Born in Ashland, KY on 1/23/1984…Son of David and Ellen Surgalski…Previously attended Wright State and Ohio University…Father played basketball for Penn State University…Enjoys spending time at the lake…Likes to golf with his father…Favorite professional sports team is the Dallas Mavericks…Favorite course is Spanish.www.georgetowncollegeathletics.com/teams/Mens_Basketball/players/mark_surgalski.htmI walked through the campus of Harvard once. I guess I can list them in my resume now too.

I love when incoming players enroll early. They get an extra 2-3 months of practice time with their new teammates. It's another bonus to get these guys in the strength and conditioning program 2-3 months earlier.

Anyone know why N'Gai Evans isn't taking classes like everyone else this summer?

I am happy Scott Grote is officially registered. I think he will be an above average Horizon League player. A 6'6" wing in the Horizon League is a tall player for that position. I am looking forward to having him on our team in the future. Am also excited about seeing Ronnie Thomas and John David Gardner for the first time this Fall. It is like opening presents at Christmas.

Well, in hindsight, Surgalski obviously was not a big loss since he is finishing up his career at an NAIA school and has never had any success on the college level. But I remember thinking at the time it was a big loss. We needed big guys. Surgalski was kind of a typical Schilling recruit, as sad as it is to say that. Well, I guess he would've had to play a year and then transfer to be a true ES recruit. ES set back Raider hoops 10 years.

Anyone know why N'Gai Evans isn't taking classes like everyone else this summer? Most guys start summer classes before the fall to get a head start on conditioning and learning their teams offense/defense before their freshman season. My money is on Evans redshirting this year. There is no reason for him to start classes this summer when he will have a whole year head start on his freshman season.

Homer you can't possible know what you are talking about with ES, since he has only been gone a little over four years I don't think you could assess the the next six years and how he inpacted them . I appreciate his contributions to the program as I do the contributions of all of the coaches we have had.
