I couldn't find a relevant and recent thread to put this in so this place will suffice. American Sports Network is shutting down. Personally I saw them as a network that could potentially air some of our games nationally after the poor deal we got from ESPN this year. Oh well That's too bad. The execution and on-air talent--particularly in the studio--was lacking, but that was easily correctible. I can't remember any WSU games being telecast by ASN, but I know the team down the road had at least 2 games broadcast on ASN. Yet, I couldn't watch them due to AT&T universe not including sub channels. Direct TV (AT&T) doesn't include sub-channels either. That was a big hurdle for ASN. The other hurdle...stations only carried a game when their local team was playing. There's potential...LOTS of potential, especially with the implosion going on with ESPN, but if ASN is to come back they need to refine their model, have better studio talent and execution, and require local stations to carry more programing. I think we had one game on there this year. Maybe, but 100% on that. I really really like Mark Adams though. He has a great personality

Sorry, I meant to say I'm NOT 100% on that

I'm glad RaiderFan brought this topic back to relevance.
I've been thinking a lot about media coverage since it was brought up in the last stages of "Motor City Madness."
ESPN is hemorrhaging viewers and it's projected by 2022 (just five years from now) they'll be losing $1 BILLION annually under their current formula. Their bubble has popped. Their model is no longer profitable, in the long-term.
The Cash Cow (ESPN) that so many conferences rely upon to feed their Athletic Departments is going to run dry...sooner rather than later.
Programs and conferences need to start positioning themselves now for the inevitable.
Other sports programming networks aren't in a similar corner ESPN painted themselves into. CBSsportsnetwork, NBCsn, and FOXsports are in relatively good shape.
I'm not sure how all this will play out, but I doubt the rich will get filthier richer as they have in the past 10 years. Will the big conferences still squeeze out the other conferences? I'm sure they will.
Going forward, I think there will be opportunities for Wright State and the HL to improve our media coverage. Maybe it's a revived and improved ASN or a reemergence of the HL Network. IMHO, this is what LeCrone needs to be focused on the next year or so...Not where the basketball tournaments are played.

FWIW, our games at home with YSU and Milwaukee were on ASN. Couldn't tell you about the team down the road. We also had 5 games on Spectrum Sports/TWC. All of those 7 games were also on ESPN3.
I watch games on ESPN but, don't much care for any of their other programming. I read the bottom scroll to see my sports "news" during games and even then ignore that after I see something more than once.

I would like the games to be televised/broadcast by an entity that is carried by all cable/internet platforms. I know this is a big TWC/Spectrum market, but there are many of us who have AT&T Uverse, Direct TV, or have cut the cord completely. In those cases it's practically impossible to watch the game if it's carried on a platform exclusive to just one distributor.
I would also like to see our baseball games be included with more comprehensive coverage. Our home games are just on statcast. As good as the program has been the past few years--and hopefully remains a Top-50 program--I believe they've earned the right to have some type of live coverage. Does the school still operate WWSU radio? Aren't there some wannabe Vin Scully's, Dan Pugh...err...Patrick's, Holly Cow Harry Carry's, in the communication department that could live stream home baseball games??

WWSU is still alive and well but I have no knowledge of them broadcasting baseball games as of this point. That would be nice to have

Someone on Green Bay's board said Campus Insiders will take over broadcasting some content instead of ASN.
