Butler's fake National Championships

I was checking out the other message boards this morning and came across this thread on Butler's board:

Did everyone else know that Butler is laying claim to the 1924 and 1929 National Champions in college basketball? They are basing this on winning the oh so prestigious AAU National Tournament each of those years. For a team that has some real success (2 trips to the Sweet 16) you would think that they would be ashamed to have banners hanging in Hinkle Fieldhouse to this effect. The REAL NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship didn't start start until 1939. Here is it's history:
