From the Horizon League office...
Thanks to our viewers, the Horizon League Network experienced unprecedented success during Thursday night's (Jan. 17) video streaming schedule.
More than 10,000 people attempted to login to HLN between 7 and 9:30 p.m. ET, making this the Network's largest viewed date ever.
With that success comes a few growing pains, and HLN would like to apologize to any viewers who had difficulty accessing the site or who experienced slow load times that night. We are fully aware of the problem and are doing everything to make sure that it will never happen again.
"We are extremely excited about the increasing popularity of the Horizon League Network and would like to thank the fans for making it a high- traffic site," said Horizon League Commissioner Jon LeCrone. "With that said, a quality viewing experience for our fans is HLN's top priority, and we are working diligently so they can enjoy the games without any issues each and every time they logon."
Fans are invited to tune in again this Saturday for a complete lineup of five men's and five women's Horizon League basketball games.

More than 10,000 people attempted to login to HLN between 7 and 9:30 p.m. ET. This is the main reason I dislike the HLN. Every time one of you wants to complain about our poor attendance, think about how many potential paying fans are no longer coming to the Nutter Center because of the HLN. I love being able to watch our away games on the HLN, but if the HL had any business sense whatsoever, they would be charging a fee to see the games. I paid to watch WSU play 3 NC road games this year. I would pay to watch our conference road games too. 10,000 fans just watched some great basketball and none of the HL teams benefited from it.

It's nice to know the HLN is addressing problems. I hated CSTV last year.

I remember reading an article 2 years ago about the HL spending something like $200,000 to start up internet broadcasts on CSTV. I don't know what the cost is to run the HLN, but I would guess that it is more than what was spent on CSTV. I believe that money used to be used to televise games on Foxsports. It makes sense for the HLN to charge for broadcasts. If nothing else, we can offset some of the costs of running the HLN. Realistically, they should be able to bring in enough revenue to run the HLN and improve the quality of the video feeds. Optimistically, it could help bring in additional revenue to each of the HL member institutions.

I'll pay a fee to watch the games. Maybe that is the plan in the next year or two after getting the wrinkles ironed out and more people are exposed to it.

What does the HL need money for? The amount of money the HL would give to schools would be minimal when it gets divided by 10 schools. The only thing the HL might do with revenues generated by the HLN is reduce the ticket prices for the HL Tournament.
Probably best to keep it where it is. Everyone or every organiztion tries to squeeze every posible penny out of people. It is refreshing to see the HL take the high road and offer a free service.

All NCAA tournament money is divided into 12 portions. The team that goes to the NCAA tournament gets 2 portions. The other HL schools each get 1 portion and the HL gets 1 portion for operating costs. If the HL could support more of it's own operating cost, each member school could keep more of it's NCAA winnings.

The HL and HLN also have advertising budgets.
