This is what Kyle said this afternoon on his on-line chat.
Randall (San Francisco, CA): Can Wright State get back in the discussion for an at-large bid with a win at ISU or even at Butler?
Kyle Whelliston: (12:16 PM ET ) Wright gets killed for strength of schedule... they really didn't play teams that are factors this year. No disrespect to Fullerton and Belmont, but it's not the kind of schedule that can compete with the true at-large candidates.
Josh (Richmond): Discounting the "tweeners" (A10, MWC, CUSA), what are your top five mid major conferences?
Kyle Whelliston: (12:48 PM ET ) In no particular order, I'd say CAA, Valley, Horizon, WAC and MAC.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ryan (Indianapolis, IN): What more does Butler have to do to get respect? We win...that should be enough.
Kyle Whelliston: (12:49 PM ET ) Two answers: they need to win on TV to get certain people's respect, and the Horizon League is focused on being a leader in broadband delivery. The other is that "respect" doesn't matter, NCAA wins do. There will be more of those soon.
Wright State over Butler by 1 (Cincy, OH): Kyle, Quick comment: Going by NCAA-published average attendance figures, if every "Big 6" team hosts a home game, they'll draw 785,000 total fans. If every mid-major team hosts a home game, they'll draw 600,000 fans. Not a big difference. I think I speak for all of us mid-major fans when I say we REALLY appreciate the work you do.
Kyle Whelliston: (2:23 PM ET ) Thanks, WSoBb1. It does take more schools to reach their attendance figures, but I think what folks are finding out is that there's a significant amount of interest in basketball at this level. A lot of people think that if it's not on TV, the gym is empty.
