Raiders host 12 matches, including seven straight over three-week span in September
12 home matches, including seven straight during September, highlight the 2008 Wright State volleyball schedule, which was released Wednesday.
The Raiders, under fourth-year head coach Trina Smith, will make the short trip down I-75 to start the campaign with the State Farm/Vernon Manor Bearcat Invitational August 29-30. WSU faces host Cincinnati in the opener on Friday, August 29, at 7:30 followed by Marshall and Tennessee Tech the next day.
Wright State competes in the UAlbany Classic in Albany, taking on Connecticut, Albany and Buffalo, and visits Eastern Michigan before opening the home portion of its schedule with the Raider Challenge September 12-13. Florida State, Niagara and Morehead State make up the field for the two-day, six-match tournament.
Following the Raider Challenge, WSU will host Milwaukee, Green Bay, Cleveland State and Youngstown State over two weekends to open Horizon League play and conclude the seven-match homestand. The October and November portions of the schedule features the final 12 Horizon League matches along with local match-ups at IPFW and Dayton and at home against Indiana State on Tuesday, October 14.
The Horizon League Tournament is set for November 20-23 in Cleveland.
In all, three of the 21 opponents made the 2007 NCAA Tournament (Albany, Cleveland State, Dayton), 13 posted records of .500 or better and 11 recorded 19 or more wins last season (Albany, Cincinnati, Cleveland State, Connecticut, Dayton, Eastern Michigan, IPFW, Marshall, Milwaukee, Morehead State and Valparaiso).
