If we have 1 or 2 games left to schedule, is it possible to get a game with Saint Joseph's or George Washington of the A-10? Those two teams are usually pretty good. I know both of the teams have smaller arenas so they have a hard time getting quality teams do a home and home series. Another idea I have heard on this forum (I am not sure who's idea it was originally), is to get a home and home series with Air Force. I think that would attract a lot of the people from Wright-Patt. We've been trying to schedule Air Force for years. They aren't interested.

It doesn't make sense for Air Force to travel across the country just to schedule another mid-major like us. They can schedule 12 other programs just like us much closer to home for them.

I think in the future when we become more of a name like Southern Illinois, Xavier or Butler (yeah, I have to give the devil his due), we can get Air Force for a home and home. After reading the responses, I can understand why they are not interested now, but what about St. Joe's and George Washington? They are usually good (last year was a down year for GW) and they have a hard time getting teams to come to them because they have tiny arenas. I think they would be good for a home and home.

I have a friend who works at Bowling Green. He says we aren't on their schedule this season.

I was ok with playing BGSU, but I wasn't really excited about the game. If we have to play another MAC program, I hope it is against a top MAC program like Kent State or Ohio U. Otherwise, I wish we would try to schedule someone from the MVC or CAA. George Mason dropped out of the Puerto Rico tournament because they needed to schedule more home games to balance out their schedule. I would love to start a series with them and wouldn't mind starting it on the road.

Louisiana Lafayette men land date with 'BamaJoshua Parrott July 19, 2008 One week after an agreement for a road game against the University of Houston fell apart, the UL men's basketball team added another SEC program to the 2008-09 schedule. Coach Robert Lee confirmed that the Ragin' Cajuns received a signed contract from Alabama on Friday for a Dec. 6 game against the Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa, Ala. "It's an opportunity to play a team in a BCS conference and see how your team measures up to that level of competition," said Lee, whose program also talked with Missouri and Mississippi State. "We want to play good competition every night. We like playing these types of teams. "Hopefully, our team is able to play to our potential in this game." According to the one-year contract, the Cajuns will receive a guarantee of $70,000 for the non-conference game. The Crimson Tide finished fifth in the SEC Western Division last season after going 17-16 under coach Mark Gottfried. The Cajuns lost their previous two meetings against Alabama - 75-58 on Jan. 26, 1959 and 59-53 on Dec. 4, 1962. Both games were played in Tuscaloosa. Alabama lost four seniors from last season but brought in a recruiting class headlined by freshman forward JaMychal Green. A five-star recruit by Rivals.com, Green is playing this summer with USA Basketball's Under-18 National Team. The Tide, who also signed former Cajun recruit Anthony Brock from Itawamba (Miss.) Community College, fill a non-conference opening left when Houston and UL could not agree on a contract last week. With Alabama on the schedule, the Cajuns now need one more non-conference game for next season. The Cajuns play Oral Roberts, McNeese State and Lamar at home and UAB, Tennessee, LSU, Utah Valley State and now Alabama on the road in non-conference action. Lee said the Cajuns are in discussions with Tennessee-Chattanooga, Sam Houston State and Wright State to play at the Cajundome for that final opening. "Every team we play next season is a really good team," Lee said. "We have some really decent mid-major teams at home that are very similar to teams in our league. I think playing games like that can only prepare us for league play." UL hopes to have the 2008-09 schedule completed by next week, Lee said. The Cajuns should be among the preseason favorites in the Sun Belt Conference next season. Last season the Cajuns shared the SBC's West Division title with Arkansas-Little Rock and went 15-15 despite having the nation's third-youngest roster. All but four Cajuns are expected to return as the program signed a six-man recruiting class heavy on post players expected to improve the inside game. theadvertiser.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080719/SPORTS/807190326

Louisiana Lafayette would be a solid addition to our schedule. They finished 15-15 last year. They had an RPI of 181. They had a really young team last year, so they should be even better this season.

Network has blessed WSU-Wake gameBy Marc Katz Staff Writer Sunday, July 20, 2008 FAIRBORN — The Wake Forest University basketball team's need for a good game played a part in pairing the Demon Deacons with Wright State on Dec. 14 in Winston-Salem, N.C., but another big part of the equation was Fox Sports Net, which had to approve the matchup. "This is a big game for us, and a recruiting tool," said WSU coach Brad Brownell, who pursued the game the moment he found out it was available. "It's a pretty big deal for us, too," said Dino Gaudio, who took over Wake's program after the untimely death of coach Skip Prosser last July. "(Wright State) won 21 games last year. We think it's a very high-caliber team with a chance to win its conference. We're going to treat it like an (Atlantic Coast Conference) game." Wake Forest was 17-13 last season and did not receive a postseason tournament bid, in part because of a weak nonconference schedule. Wright State's final RPI was 86. Wake's was 100. Still, it took FSN to finalize the deal. "I hate to say Wake Forest had to get our approval," said Jeremy Langer, Fox Sports Net vice president of collegiate sports and acquisitions, who has 19 ACC games his network telecasts. "They certainly had to run it by us. We work with the institutions to get quality schedules for all the schools. "We had a date to fill, and that's a tough date. A lot of schools have exams then, or are on vacation." Had Wake Forest not found a suitable opponent, Fox might have passed on that Sunday and scheduled a game on another date, maybe with another school. But Brownell persisted, and Gaudio was intrigued. He called Langer and pitched WSU. "We wanted a quality opponent," Gaudio said. "We didn't want to play ABC U. We contacted a lot of teams. Some didn't want to play here. Some wanted to be the home team." Langer said he researched WSU. "I knew Wright State wasn't in the tournament this past year, but they were two years ago," Langer said. "Coach Brownell has a great reputation. I like the mid-major against a major story. I thought Wright State had a lot of potential. "The other good thing about Wright State is you're in Dayton, and that's a good market for us. We have FSN Ohio as one of our regional sports networks. Providing some product that resonates in that market is also a pretty important component. "The coach makes a big difference, and the geography, where they're located. We could have had a team from the middle of Illinois, which really doesn't move the needle for me. I don't have a robust business in the middle of Illinois. It's not a good market for us." Dayton is, and the deal was made. www.daytondailynews.com/s/content/oh/story/sports/college/wsu/2008/07/19/ddn072008spwsubb.html

Wow, actually a pretty insightful, honest story about how things really work in college basketball scheduling. Things we already knew, but never heard people come right out and say. This article shows just how hard it really is for mid-majors to schedule. This isn't even a home/home series we were trying to schedule. This is a money game at their place without a return game and we still had to jump through hoops to get it.

It's sad we had to jump through hoops to get it, but I'm glad we did. Like the article says, this should be a good recruiting tool for our coaches.

Saint Joseph's will actually be playing in the palestra for the next three or four years while renovations are made to the fieldhouse. sju does okay in terms of scheduling. they play some ooc games in the Palestra, and have recently gotten Ohio State, Gonzaga and Creighton to play them home and home. of course being in the big five helps with scheduling as well. As for GW, they've recently played on the road at Kennesaw State (still can't figure that one out), at UMBC (although that's a regional opponent), and at Binghampton. It's not too outrageous to think they'd be willing to play Wright State. However, it's also worth noting they're coming off a nine win season, so the best thing they have to offer appears to be their brand name. Granted they were young last year, but still...

Perhaps their brand name is a C+ brand name at best. C+ isn't great, but when you compare it to the rest of the grades on their report card (especially after last season), it may still be the best thing they have going Thanks. I'll see what I can do.
