I was shocked to read over on RRB that Cory Cooperwood had put on 30 lbs and is out of shape. Keith from Xenia reported this and he is never one to give false information.
This is extremely disappointing because I think the coaches were counting on Cory to be a mainstay in the lineup. Let's hope he works himself back into shape before Oct. 15th.

I'm willing to bet that Cory will be at his playing weight before the season starts. Strength and conditioning coach Jason Bradford will make sure of that.

KFX said......... Cory reported for duty with the raiders sadly out of shape, maybe 30 lbs + his playing weight. Cory is a guy we are counting on to be a major contributor to the raiders. He needs to be committed year around. He is on a vigorous training program even as we speak. raiderroundball.yuku.com/topic/1064Didn't Cory start classes at WSU at the beginning of the summer? If he did, he could have already dropped a large portion of that weight. Even if he just showed up for fall classes now, he has three months to get his butt in shape. Either way, this is still very disappointing. Cory has a chance to be an impact player for us IF he is committed.

Our home opener isn't until Nov. 15 vs Illinois St. There is plenty of time for Cooperwood to get back into shape by then. I'm more worried about his ability to participate in practice in October. Brownell won't play him in November if he isn't busting his hind end off in practice in October. He is already at a disadvantage because he is the only new member to our roster.

Didn't Cory start classes at WSU at the beginning of the summer? I believe he started classes in A term this past summer.

This puts a damper on the the start of the season. I hope you guys are right about him being able to get into shape by November. Consistent post play is the only thing that could hold this team back from having a kick ass year.

What is it with our luck with JUCOs? we signed Horn last year and he contributed next to nothing because of his injuries. Then we lost Lewis due to grades and now Cooperwood shows up out of shape. It will suck if he cannot contribute this year due to his conditioning. It's seriously making me think we should just stick to recruiting 4 year players.

This is extremely disappointing, but like others have already stated, I have faith our strength and condition coach will have him in shape for the season. More than anything else, this just leaves a bad first impression for Mr. Cooperwood with the Raider faithful.

One nice thing about this team is our depth. Even though we lack experience with our forwards, we are deep. This opens the door more for Scott Grote, Cooper Land, and Gavin Horne to position themselves for more playing time and should lead to better competition between all of them in the fall. More competition should lead to better play.

the 30 lbs is an estimate, his sad conditioning and training regimen are totally accurate. however, i would not be too down about this. hopefully he has learned a lesson. he will pay a price with his extra work and i hope this helps him not get lax again. i agree he has plenty of time to get in shape, but time devoted to conditioning is time lost to improving his game. i am still counting on him as a starter and think he will be a real player for us. GO RAIDERS!!!!!!!!!!

Mr. Keith from Xenia.. people like you are the reason great players like cory dont completely enjoy their experiences at wright state. I know your not trying to get on here and act like you know first hand what kind of shape he came to wsu in. Sir, he is the hardest worker at wright state.. and all Brownell had to say about him was how he wished every player had the heart and work ethic cory does. So get your facts straight, and quit bein a hater!!

Cory did report to school 30 pounds over weight and spend the first 5 months of his career at WSU trying to get himself back into shape. Regardless, why are you bringing up a 2 year old thread?

Sir, he is the hardest worker at wright state.. and all Brownell had to say about him was how he wished every player had the heart and work ethic cory does. So get your facts straight, and quit bein a hater!! First off raider11, welcome to the board. I hope we do not have to relive every post from the past couple years, LOL. Keith was just reporting what he was told, and never once questioned Cory's work ethic once he witnessed it at WSU. Welcome to the internet, not just here, but everywhere. People often regurgitate hearsay as truth, whether it is or is not the truth. Smart people learn to make judgments on their own, the idiots, not so much. But any true fan can usually tell the difference between the truth and rhetoric. But as far as Keith goes, he was a big proponent of Cory's during the past two years. Keith is very passionate about the Raiders and his emotions roll as the Raiders do. KofX especially loves the big guys, since he is one himself. But to say players do not enjoy there stay at Wright State because of post on a message board is a little extreme, IMHO. They may not like what is said, but if that hurts their experience at WSU that much, they are in for a long road in the rest of their life. I actually think relatives of the players take it a lot worse than the players do, because they want to be protective of their family. I do not agree with criticizing players for particular mistakes they make on the court during a game, but I will give criticism as to how they can make their game better. Such as so and so needs to work on his passing. I do not think a person should say that pass at the end of the game cost us the game. As many plays during the game probably led to the loss . Again welcome to the board, we can use all the fans we can get.
