Everyone is talking about John David Gardner, Cory Cooperwood, and even Todd Brown with his resurgence in San Juan and rightfully so but I'm starting to think that maybe, just maybe Ronnie T. is starting to come around to the type of player this team needs.
Since he was reinserted into the starting lineup for the San Jaun Tournament his number aren't outstanding but I see them as trending in the right direction.
Over his last three games he has averaged 4.6 ppg and 3.3 rpg in only 18 minutes of play. Like I said his numbers are not overwhelming but I contend that if we can get around 6 points a game and over 4 rebounds in 20 minutes of floor time this would be a asset to the team.
I contend that with JD, Cory, and now Todd being our main scoring threats and hopefully Vaughn returning soon our post player does not need to be a huge scorer but at least a threat and he must rebound and defend the post.
What are your guys thoughts on Ronnie Thomas?

I agree wholeheartedly and I think his solid play reflects the approach of the team as a whole. Ronnie Thomas is not going to be a dominant guy in any aspect of a basketball game. He is not going to light it up scoring or be a devastating defender or rebounder but what he can do is provide solid minutes as a role player. He needs to contribute a little offensively and be scrappy in the post as a rebounder and defender. He simply needs to do his job when he's on the floor and play within himself. The whole team is kind of like this. We have some guys who can put up big numbers on a given night but we really have a team of role players without any superstars. Duggins and Brown have the potential to play at a higher level than the rest but they aren't going to do it every game. When we win it really has to be a team effort with a lot of guys contributing a little here and there. A lot of teams have the luxury of a great, great scorer (like D. Wood was for us in '07) who can keep them in games. I know it sounds cliché but with this team the whole has to be greater than the sum of its parts. Just like the Wooden quote, "Don't let what you can't do interfere with what you can do."
The ability to get this out of his team is what helps make Brownell a great coach who will be a consistent winner.

What are your guys thoughts on Ronnie Thomas? I think you are giving Ronnie too much of the credit. It has been a nice group effort from our post players since Vaughn went down. Starting with the UALR game, Gavin averaged 4.7 points and 2.2 rebounds in a little over 15 minutes a game. Cooper has averaged 4.5 points and 2 rebounds in 16 minutes. Scott Grote has averaged 3.7 points and 2.5 rebounds in 13 minutes a game. Combine that with Ronnie's contribution and we are getting good production from our centers and back up posts.

More than anything else, I see Ronnie and Gavin getting more physical on both ends of the court inside. I think this has freed up Cory to score more.

I was focusing this thread on Ronnie but I do agree with you that Gavin has really picked up his level of play as well. The only reason I focused on Ronnie was early on in the season I felt like Ronnie was the weak link in the chain in the group of Gavin, Cooper, Cory, Scott, & Kyle but I think he has brought his level of play up to on par with some of the other post players.

Ronnie still needs to get his butt under the basket and stop camping out at the 3 point line.

I agree. He needs to learn to play with the basket to his back and rebound the basketball. His production lately is getting better but still tons of room to improve.

What's up with the Pressley kid lately? I haven't been able to see many games lately. However, I saw a few of the early games via the web & was impressed with his energy & toughness around the basket. I thought he might might develop into a nice post presence for us. He doesn't play good enough defense for Brownell. He gets out of position too much and gives up easy lay ups.

mr.dorsey (do you really have to blitz dorsey to be successful???) says of Ronnie Thomas: "He's never going to be a good player".................what's your definition of "good" mr blitz?

Blitz, maybe it's time you start wondering if everyone else is the problem or if it is you. This is the third fight you have been in with three different posters in the last week about stupid stuff. Decisive Schematic Advantage is an appropriate tag line for you. Your posts read just like Charlie Weis and his know it all condescending attitude. Maybe, just maybe, if you didn't make all of your posts so insulting, people wouldn't get so upset with you.
