I know we all realize that Todd has stepped his game up since the beginning of the season, but a quick stat speaks volumes towards just how much this is so.
Nov. 15- Dec. 20, 11 games: 4.6 PPG Dec. 20- Jan. 29, 10 games: 16.1 PPG

I am excited for this game. I am going to be in the stands for this game. It is going to be a hard game for us. we need to continue to have production from everyone. We need to stop Bullock better this game.

This will be a difficult game to win. Cleveland States offense pretty much consist of dribble penetration by Jackson, Coles, and Bullock. With our two best defenders, JD & Vaughn, either out or injured it will be up to N'GAi and Will to stop their drives to the basket. As valuable as Troy is on offense I am a little concerned that he will be able to handle Cleveland States guards defensively.
To me it will be critical for Cory Cooperwood to stay out of foul trouble this game. He will probably be matched up with Bullock and we all know how Bullock gets many favorable calls from the refs when he puts the ball on the floor. Gavin will probably also be called upon to help slow Bullock down.
No doubt this would be a huge road win for the team and we'll have to be at the top of our game to win this physical match up.

I hope I'm wrong, but I bet CSU gets this one. I think this one will be decided by the officiating. If they call a fair game, I think we win. If they give Jackson and Bullock the "star" treatment and call a bunch of BS phantom fouls on us, they will win. We don't have enough depth right now to give up those fouls. That is especially true if Cory gets into foul trouble vs Bullock. We can't afford to have him on the bench for 1/2 the game in foul trouble.

Brownell: Injuries offer chancesBy Marc Katz Staff Writer Saturday, January 31, 2009 CLEVELAND — Wright State basketball coach Brad Brownell said he doesn't implore his players to make up for injured teammates. But tonight at Cleveland State, the Raiders expect to be three players short for the second straight game. "I try not to make a big deal out of guys being out," Brownell said after the team bus pulled into downtown Friday, Jan. 30, from Youngstown, where the Raiders beat the Penguins 67-61 Thursday. "I think it would be a natural mindset for guys to think about it, but we just talk about making the plays that are there. "When somebody's out, it's just an opportunity for somebody else." All-Horizon League guard Vaughn Duggins played in only four games before a hand injury sidelined him for the season. Last week, starting guard John David Gardner went out with a hip injury that remains day-to-day. He didn't play at all at Youngstown State. And reserve guard/forward Scott Grote will be serving the second game of a two-game suspension. That leaves a shortage of players, especially guards, but at YSU, a crowd stepped up to fill the void. Sophomore forward Cooper Land scored 10 of his 12 points in the second half. Junior guard Todd Brown scored 12 of his 20 points in the second half, and sophomore N'Gai Evans scored all 11 of his points in the second half. www.daytondailynews.com/s/content/oh/story/sports/college/wsu/2009/01/31/ddn013109spwsubb.html

I agree with gang green, the refs will be our biggest concern. I have much confidence in our ability to shut down csu offensively. They are not scary at all.
And Vegas knows jack shit. They are probably using rpi to fall back on which to me is useless when it comes to csu and what they have done lately. I mean come on, 6? If we lose it will be by 4 or less, 6 suggests that they would have solid control in this game, a comfy cushion, i don't see that happening. We will win, and next weeks home games will be AMAZING.

Preview: Wright State (13-8, 7-3) at Cleveland State (14-8, 5-5)By Marc Katz Staff Writer Saturday, January 31, 2009 Time: 7:30 p.m. today Radio: WONE-AM (980), WIZE-AM (1340) Records: Wright State 13-8, 7-3 Horizon League; Cleveland State 14-8, 5-5 Series: WSU leads 26-23 CLEVELAND STATE J'Nathan Bullock Sr. 6-5 F 15.7 George Tandy Sr. 6-8 F 4.7 Chris Moore Sr. 6-9 C 5.2 Norris Cole So. 6-1 G 12.3 Cedric Jackson Sr. 6-3 G 10.0 WRIGHT STATE Cory Cooperwood Jr. 6-7 F 9.1 Ronnie Thomas Jr. 6-9 C 3.4 Will Graham Sr. 6-2 G 5.0 N'Gai Evans So. 6-1 G 6.4 Todd Brown Jr. 6-5 G 9.6 About CSU Ever since sophomore D'Aundray Brown, a 6-foot-4 guard, went down in the first half of the first WSU game on Dec. 30, the Vikings haven't been the same. They lost that game, and have been 4-3 since, stopping a three-game losing streak Thursday at home against Detroit. Brown, who was averaging 7.8 points and 5.2 rebounds, is out with stress fractures in his left rib cage. He is also expected to miss this game. About Wright State Raiders probably will have to go without point guard John David Gardner again, although he could play if needed. He's still experiencing pain in his right hip. N'Gai Evans took Gardner's spot in the starting lineup Thursday at Youngstown State, responding with an 11-point outing and three assists. Scott Grote will also sit out this game, the second of his two-game suspension for undisclosed reasons. FYI The Raiders are 5-2 over their last seven games at Cleveland. The Raiders have won six of eight at home against the Vikings, following a 71-62 victory earlier in the season. Quote "I still think Cleveland State is one of the best teams in the league." — WSU coach Brad Brownell www.daytondailynews.com/s/content/oh/story/sports/college/wsu/2009/01/31/ddn013109spwsuprev.html

Troy had a nice first half at YSU, but disappeared in the second half. Cory needs to have a big breakout game and really attack the basket on offense and try to get Bullock into some foul trouble. Honestly, he is the only guy on CSU's squad I fear. Jackson hasn't played well all year.

www.cleveland.com/csu/plaindealer/index.ssf?/base/sports/123339443856670.xml&coll=2For CSU, what's wrong against Wright State? Saturday, January 31, 2009 Joe MaxsePlain Dealer Reporter Cleveland State men's basketball coach Gary Waters likes to preach about "holding serve." Using the tennis vernacular, show no love to your opponent by always winning your home games. For the most part, especially the past two seasons, the Vikings have done just that. With Thursday's win against Detroit Mercy, they are 20-4 at the Wolstein Center the past two years to tie for the most home wins in consecutive seasons. However, the one Horizon League foe refusing to go along with the coach's dogma is Wright State. The Raiders have left the Wolstein Center winners the past three seasons and four of the past five. Outside of nationally ranked and first-place Butler, they come to town as the hottest team in the conference. After dropping their first six games, they have won 13-of-15, including the past five. "Wright State can win on the road and will bring a lot of issues for us," said Waters, whose club lost the first meeting a month ago, 71-62. "They have experience in their guards, and their four-man can step out and shoot. It's a tough matchup for us." It's also a critical issue when it comes to the standings. With first place conceded to Butler, there is a four-way battle for second, which would earn a bye to the postseason tournament semifinals. So regular-season tiebreakers are all important. That's how the Vikings slipped past the Raiders a year ago, both clubs going 12-6 in league play. Promotion night: Tonight's men's-women's doubleheader is a "Take a Kid to the Game" promotion. Children 12 and under will get in free with the purchase of each adult ticket. Other promotions include free drawstring backpacks to the first 1,000 fans, $1 hot dogs and free KidZone activities.
