Xavier's Miller to be introduced as Arizona coach after revised offerApril 6, 2009 By Gary Parrish DETROIT -- Barring another last-minute change of plans, Sean Miller will be introduced as Arizona's next basketball coach despite the fact that he turned down the job late Sunday, a source has told CBSSports.com. According to a source, Miller scheduled a Monday afternoon meeting with his staff, at which point he is expected to finalize the decision. The source said Arizona athletic director Jim Livengood called Miller early Monday after having been rejected and "significantly changed" the offer, which was initially around $2 million per year for seven seasons. At that point, the source said, Miller got better assurances on the number of "buy" games he would be allowed to schedule, as well as some enhanced promises about the way the team would travel. Thus, Miller's career at Xavier seems set to end after five seasons, four of which resulted in NCAA tournament appearances. A statement is expected later Monday. A news conference could come as early as Tuesday. www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/story/11599671

This is one job that Brad will probably seriously consider if offered.

I'm not worried. I don't think Xavier will offer him. If they do go after Brownell, I'm not sure he will take it. He has a pretty good situation here. He gets along with our AD well and has a really strong team coming back next year. The Xavier job is a step up, but not a huge step up. If WSU is as good as we all think we are going to be next year and WSU makes a run in the tournament, Brownell will have BCS offers. I think Brownell is smart enough to be patient enough to land a top tier job.
Worst case scenario, if Brownell does leave for the Xavier job I would be more than happy to offer Donlon our head coaching gig. He is ready.

XAVIER TO KEEP IT IN FAMILY WITH MACK? Apr 06, 2009 Now that Sean Miller is heading to Arizona, one of the premiere jobs in America is open. Xavier athletic director Mike Bobinski is regarded as one of the elite guys in the business – and shouldn’t have to go far to find Miller’s replacement. Xavier associate head coach Chris Mack, 39, has been with Miller for the last five years and is a 1992 Xavier graduate who grew up and played high school ball in Cincinnati. Mack also spent three years as an assistant at Wake Forest under the late Skip Prosser. Wright State coach Brad Brownell and Siena head coach Fran McCaffery will also likely be mentioned as a candidate after leading the Saints to consecutive NCAA tournament appearances. community.foxsports.com/blogs/goodmanonfox

Doug Gottlieb was just on ESPN News (3:38 pm), mentioned Chris Mack, Fran McCafferty, Brad Stevens, and Brad Brownell as the guys most likely to be on Xavier's list as the next head coach.

The worst part of all of this is that it is going to kill our recruiting effort for the spring signing period until Xavier names a coach or Brownell says he isn't interested. Spring signing period starts next Wednesday, April 15.

Didn't learn anything new in the press conference besides Miller gave Chris Mack his endorsement to replace him at Xavier.

X fans are a bit peeved at Miller right now. I'm not sure that endorsement really helps our cause too much...

It's a good thing their fans won't be doing the hiring. Xavier has a good AD. He will make a good choice.

Spring signing period starts next Wednesday, April 15. The timing of this does suck, but listening to this crap every spring is even worse. I'm to the point where I don't really care if he leaves anymore. I hate that he won't just come out and say if he is interested or not. Spring recruiting is killed every year because he won't just make a definitive statement to his interest in another job. Other coaches use that against us in recruiting. I'm sick of it.
