Ex-assistant in NBA to lead Park Tudor boysBy Kristen Leigh Porter Posted: August 24, 2009 Former high school and college head coach and NBA assistant Ed Schilling is the new varsity boys basketball coach at Park Tudor School. Schilling, 43, was head coach at Wright State (1997-2003) and an assistant coach for UMass (1995-1996), the New Jersey Nets (1996-1997) and Memphis (2003-05). A former head coach at Logansport and Western Boone, Schilling currently serves as executive director for the Zionsville-based Champions Academy, and will continue in that role. Schilling met with his new players this afternoon. “I’m not interested in how many games I can win or in trying to get the next job, it’s about helping them maximize their potential as players and people,” he said. “I’m grateful for the opportunity and of being able to con-tinue the academy and to con-tinue to work with kids around the state.” www.indystar.com/article/20090824/LOCAL1802/90824050/1057/SPORTS02/Ex-assistant+in+NBA+to+lead+Park+Tudor+boys

A great situation for ES and the kids. Good luck to both. On the plus side, if these kids get homesick, they just go home and comeback the next day.

ECU almnus elevated from director of basketball operations position Aug. 28, 2009 GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina graduate John Moseley, who spent last season as the program's director of basketball operations, has been promoted to assistant coach announced Pirate head coach Mack McCarthy on Friday. "I am very pleased to announce that John Moseley will be elevated to assistant basketball coach from the director of basketball operations position," McCarthy said. "John brings a great deal of experience to our staff from being in Division I at Delaware, Wright State and Winston-Salem State. His experience as a high school coach in the state gives him valuable contacts as well. "He did a great job for us in his previous position, and John has been a loyal, passionate Pirate alumnus. We are very fortunate to have someone of his caliber already on our staff and ready to step into this position. He will do a great job of helping to move Pirate Basketball forward." Moseley came to ECU in 2008 after spending one season as an assistant coach at Winston-Salem State. Moseley spent the previous year at Wright State under coach Brad Brownell and helped the Raiders to the Horizon League Tournament championship and share of the regular-season title. He also spent two seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Delaware. In between his stints at Delaware and Wright State, Moseley was the head boy's basketball coach at Warren County [N.C] High School, leading his team to the 2005 Class 2A state championship game. Moseley earned his bachelor's degree from ECU in 1998 and a master's degree a year later. www.ecupirates.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/082809aaa.html

Fishburne Military School to begin postgrad basketball programBy Chris Lassiter September 4, 2009 TwitterWAYNESBORO — It's official. Fishburne Military School will have a postgraduate men's basketball team for the 2009-10 season. Less than a year after talks about a possible postgrad team began, the school has rapidly moved ahead with bringing the team to fruition. "It's going to happen," school superintendent Col. Roy Zinser said. "We may not win the national championship, but we'll be recognized." Zinser said postgraduate students will report to the school by Sept. 9, with a possible few international student-athletes trickling in shortly thereafter. The inaugural schedule is pretty much set, Zinser said, and former Wright State University assistant and Boo Williams AAU coach Ed Huckaby will coach the squad. The team is expected to have 13 student-athletes. Fishburne joins Fork Union Military Academy, Hargrave Military School and Massanutten Military Academy as state private schools with postgraduate basketball programs. Fishburne also will continue to have a scholastic team. www.newsleader.com/article/20090904/SPORTS/909040312/1006/SPORTS

College hoops in WaynesboroOctober 16, 2009 We’re going to have some Division I-quality basketball going on across the street from the AFP office this fall and this winter. “We’ll have 10, 11 guys from this team play D1,” said Ed Huckaby, the coach of the new postgrad basketball program at Fishburne Military School, which is getting its 2009-2010 season started on the road in Henderson, N.C., this weekend. Two players, Keion Palmer (Delaware) and Donte Morales (Mt. St. Mary), have already committed to D1 programs. Everybody else will be doing what they can to impress the recruiters on campus in Waynesboro for games and practices. “We’ve had A-10 and Big East and Colonial schools here at our practices already,” said Chris Nelson, a 6-4, 175-pound swingman who is being recruited by Ball State, Xavier and George Washington, among others. Coach Huckaby comes with a D1 pedigree, at Wright State and Hampton, with the rumor mill this past spring having had him in the running for a time for a spot on Tony Bennett’s staff at the University of Virginia, and an association with the successful Boo Williams AAU program in Hampton Roads. Which is to say, he has a feel for what it takes to be successful at the next level - and he’s been filling out his roster accordingly. “I’ve coached Division I for a while and been in NCAA Tournaments. I know what it takes to win at a high level. It hasn’t been that difficult. We turned down a lot of guys. It’s not just talent. We need the right mix of players with the right attitude, the right temperament,” Huckaby said. You’re going to need the right attitude and temperament to succeed at Fishburne. “We don’t like waking up early for formation, but we deal with it,” said Arthur Bell, a 6-4, 170-pound perimeter player who is being recruited by LaSalle, Western Carolina and East Tennessee State, among others. “We’re getting adjusted,” Nelson said. “It’s something that’s going to better us. We’re here to work on academics and get looks. A lot of us have talent to go places. He has talent, I have talent. We just have to blend it all together into a successful package.” That’s the kind of talk that makes Huckaby happy. “We’re not building a team. We’re building a program,” the coach said. “We want to bring guys in who understand the mission, which is high-quality basketball, high-quality character, high quality in everything that we do.” augustafreepress.com/2009/10/16/afp-focus-college-hoops-in-waynesboro/
