#1 Men's Basketball Student Section in Horizon League to be crowned Dec. 16, 2009 INDIANAPOLIS--The Horizon League Network, in conjunction with the Horizon League, will name the conference's No. 1 student section at the conclusion of the 2009-10 men's basketball regular season. The winning section will be announced live on HLN March 1, and awarded the inaugural traveling trophy. The HLN Student Section Challenge will begin on Jan. 2 with Milwaukee visiting No. 17/21 Butler and finish with Detroit at Youngstown State on Feb. 27. Within that span, HLN staff and/or League representatives will visit each campus for one game to evaluate that school's student section. Criteria for the challenge revolves around enthusiasm, originality, good sportsmanship and overall atmosphere. In addition to naming the League's top section, one student from each school will be chosen to represent his or her campus constituents in a drawing to win hotel accommodations and two tickets to the 2010 Speedway Horizon League Men's Basketball Championship game. The winner will be drawn live on HLN along with the announcement of the winning student section. "We are excited about working with HLN in this yearly challenge," Horizon League Commissioner Jon LeCrone said. "I have no doubt that our students will embrace this as an annual tradition." The Horizon League Network is in its fourth year of operation and in 2008-09 streamed more than 400 live events. HLN is scheduled to show over 120 men's basketball games this season, free of charge, as it looks to surpass its 1,500th overall webcast in 2010. Corey Greist was talking to the Raider Rowdies about what the Athletic Dept has planned about our game vs. Loyola and it sounds really cool. As long as we get students out to this game (which we should) then I see no reason why our student section can't win.

You're claiming that I personally don't have good sportsmanship?
I came from a high school that won the NATIONAL high school sportsmanship award and I pride myself on that. I don't cuss and after the game is over I calmly walk out of the arena despite fans like Cleveland State trying to pick fights with me.

I also graduated from CJ, so you can drop the hollier than thou attitude. When I attended CJ, a student would have been suspended from attending a few athletic events for starting a "CJ reject" chant during a basketball game. Did you go to the CSU game? Did you participate in the "Wright State Reject" chant our student section repeated every time Norris Cole touched the ball? If you did, then you PERSONALLY have no sportsmanship or class and should be embarrassed.

I don't hold my head up high for attending CJ, I take pride in earning CJ a national sportsmanship honor, which was the 1st of such kind for CJ. Say the word and I'll make sure we go back to the days of 3 people in the student section. I'll have plenty of schoolwork I can do. You season ticket holders have a short memory. You either bash students for not showing up or you bash students for a few bad apples that show up to games drunk which are not me and rarely are seen in the student section again. Perhaps you should ask Coach Homer Drew from Valpo or Coach K from UWGB because they love our student section.
I assume you would like a more organized student section that has chants, hand motions, etc. We try to do that every year but when you only have about 20 regulars that show up, on top of students sitting in the upper section that's pretty hard to do and then you get students yelling whatever they want. Yea there are a lot of things that I personally try to police but we try to get in their heads when we dont have the numbers to have an organized section. Butler is about the only game we can do such a thing.
Bob Grant, as well as President Hopkins come up to us every game and ask how we are, thank us for coming out, etc. But as we all know you're opinion on a message board matters more then theirs. Have fun in the VIP lounge where I'll see you Saturday! Say Hi!

You either bash students for not showing up or you bash students for a few bad apples that show up to games drunk which are not me and rarely are seen in the student section again. Our entire student section was chanting "Wright State Reject" throughout the CSU game. It wasn't just a few bad apples.

A few bad apples start it and most continue. I think that when parents and fans come over after the game and wish us best of luck and tell us about how they made them laugh, (which I recall every game with the exception of Central Michigan) on top of that from the higher ups of this UNIVERSITY.. not a basketball booster but a higher up from MY UNIVERSITY tell us what good of a job we do, I find your point moot..

That's 2 posts now without denying you participated in that chant. You know it was wrong. Say what you want about how it was started by bad apples or who told you that you did a good job afterwards. You know is was a classless chant and still you participated in it.

Never once have I said I didnt participate in that chant. Not only can you not read or respond to 99% of what I say, you put words in my mouth and I'M the classless one. Pot calling the kettle black

Nutt House...I was there.. I was chanting it...and it was the kind of thing that may not be "proper" but it fired the WHOLE student section up...Like TBRF said...could be just 4 or 5 students sitting there.
Also...we are constantly getting APPROVAL for our spirit and our ingenuity...from our admin. Stop being full of complaints (which i seem to see a lot of on this board) and be happy the students are trying.

The point Nutt House was making is that the award is based on enthusiasm, originality, good sportsmanship and overall atmosphere. Our student generally show a lack of sportsmanship. The "Wright State Reject" chant was just one recent example. Another example of this is when students created life size posters of opposing player's girlfriends with innappropriate comments written on them. That type of behavior is going to be seen as a lack of sportsmanship.
FYI, if you don't like all of the complaining on this board feel free to go to Raiderroundball. No one is forcing you to post here.

My money is on Butler's students winning it. They have the largest and most organized student section in the HL.

But by making disparaging or critical comments to anyone who deigns to post here who is not the 24-7 poster...you become a very insular and exclusive group...in families when they become insular and exclusive they call them "inbreeders", and you prob know what happens with generations of inbreeding...similar to what will happen to quality of comments on this board if continued.
Btw, the first message i SENT before i commented was to current students outlining the desire for "sportsmanship" as a tenant of this award. We are capable of policing ourself, but we also want other teams to FEAR the NUTT HOUSE not think they are going to come and have a comfy fluffy loving visit.

I'm dead serious. For your information the only rules regarding those pictures starting this season is that I do not put names on the pictures. But as we see the mighty posters of the proboards site trumps the opinions and governing rules of our athletic dept and governing bodies.
