This is not good news for WSU. I think Donlon will take the UNCW job if they offer it to him. It's his alma mater and it's where he got his start as a college coach. If he takes it, we loose our top recruiter and what most of us thought would be our next head coach.

I think most people see Donlon as Brownell's heir to WSU's head coaching job when Brownell gets his BCS job. If Donlon leaves for UNCW, it will be a huge blow to the future of our basketball team. The biggest reason Butler has been able to have continued success with their program after coaching changes is their ability to promote from within. They have kept the same basic system and they have never had to go through whole scale player turnover that usually occurs when there is a coaching change. I really like Donlon and thought he would be providing WSU with that type of stability when Brownell moves on eventually. If he takes the job, I hope Brownell is able to bring in a coach that can fill Donlon's shoes.

Brownell isn't going back to UNCW. That is probably the dumbest thing I have ever read. Coaches move up in the coaching ranks when they can. They don't take jobs with inferior facilities, a smaller fanbase, 50% less pay, where you have to completely rebuild a team unless they are forced to. When Brownell leaves WSU, it will be for a BCS program.

For some here in wilmington they want to move on with a new coach that has no ties to UNCW at all. Most would love to see Brownell, Donlon, or Byington back. Brownell is your coach and I doubt he would make a laterall move back to wilmington unless he just likes the beach. Donlon would be a great head coach at either school but I don't think this administration would go after Brownell's little minnie me, just for the fact that would really make them look more stupid than they already are. Good luck to you guys. Ya'll know how to treat a great coach.

WSU to UNCW would be considered a step down now. We have better facilities. He makes twice as much money at WSU than he could make at UNCW. And most importantly, he has an AD and university President that are 100% behind him here. He'll leave WSU eventually, but it will be for a BCS program. The most hilarious thing is, the exact same people that have been bashing Brownell on your UNCW message boards for the last 4 years are the same ones saying they need him back now.

I mean no offense, but why don't you stay the hell off our board. No one cares about your delusional opinions here.

I mean no offense, but the only people that would believe that are connected to the WSU program. (And, a Wilmington grad even more so)First, Brownell is not a UNCW grad. Second, the drop in pay ALONE (from 365K to 210K) would make anyone, not just a WSU fan, think that going back to UNCW is a major step backwards.

Don't pay him any attention. He also thinks his coach isn't going to jump ship from Butler when he gets his first legit BCS offer. It's all about the money. Stevens and Brownell will move on when the right offer comes along. Only a fool would think that a 33% paycut is the right offer.

This whole thread is stupid. Brownell isn't going to take a paycut to take a job where he would have to rebuild a program for sentimental reasons. He is going to get a BCS job in the not so distant future. Donlon might want the UNCW job, but I doubt they would hire him to save face after the way they let Brownell/Donlon leave in the first place.

Wolf, Moss only makes $170,000. Where do you get $210,000? Everyone knows that Brownell is his right mind would not go back to UNCW. He deserves a BCS job. Donlon, Mark Byington, or Rodney Terry would suit us better. No doubt you guys have a great program. Keep up the success.

As for all the people on caazone and bashing Brownell, those people were stupid then and now. They didn't like the 55-54 wins. They wanted more offense. Now they wished that they had the things of old back. I hated it when Brownell left and I hate it even more now. He's one of the best X'S and O'S coaches anywhere.
