Men Advance to Horizon League Championship With 69-50 Win Over Detroit March 6, 2010 Behind a dominant first half performance that saw the Raiders hit nine three-pointers and lead 39-18 at the break, the Wright State men's basketball team advanced to Tuesday night's Horizon League Championship game with a 69-50 win over the Detroit Titans in semifinal action at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis Saturday night. It was raining threes for the Raiders early as their first five baskets and eight of their first nine came from behind the arc, with Ronnie Thomas connecting for four and Troy Tabler three, in building a 26-13 lead with 6:43 remaining in the first half. WSU added 10 more points in a row to cap a 13-0 run, the final four by Cory Cooperwood, to goed up 36-13 at the 3:03 mark. WSU scorched the nets for 56 percent the opening 20 minutes, including nine of 14 from three, while holding the Titans to 38 percent shooting and forcing 13 turnovers, resulting a 16-2 advantage in points off of turnovers. The Raider lead grew to as much as 25 on three different occasions in the second half, with Detroit getting no closer than 14. Wright State finished the game at 49 percent from the field, including 12 of 23 from three-point range, while the Titans shot 39 percent and were just two of 15 from behind the arc. Thomas scored a career-high 18 to lead the way for the Raiders, eclipsing his previous best of 14 set at Mississippi State on December 16. Tabler hit six of seven shots in scoring 16 off the bench while Vaughn Duggins had 12 and Todd Brown 10. Eli Holman paced Detroit (20-14) with 12 points. Wright State (20-11) advances to the final for the first time since winning the title in 2007. The Raiders will face the Butler/Milwaukee winner Tuesday at 9:00 at either Hinkle Fieldhouse (if Butler wins) or at the Nutter Center (if Milwaukee wins). Tip-off is set for 9:00 and the game will be televised live on ESPN. www.wsuraiders.com/sports/m-baskbl/recaps/030610aaa.html

Let's hope tonight that Ronnie is a good anchor, and not the cement type that the mob puts around your neck. They will probably have Ronnie doing a lot of high screening and popping out for open jumpers to keep Holman from clogging up the center. Let's hope Ronnie brings his shooting touch tonight. If he is hitting that will open up some looks for our guards to drive to the hoop too. I just wanted to congratulate Ronnie an being a GREAT anchor on defense against Detroit. He was moving really well and denying Holman the ball. Great interior defense by the Raiders. And "Wildcat" was lights out in the first half, forcing Detroit to call timeout and change their defensive strategy. Great game Ronnie!

It all comes down to who's makin' their jump shot and who's keeping the other team from makin' their jump shots tuesday night. How ironic for Wright State to be the one to put the final nail in ud's coffin....

How ironic for Wright State to be the one to put the final nail in ud's coffin.... What's ironic about it? We already beat Detroit twice earlier in the year.
