wolf, i think it is a lot different. we had 80% of our starters in place and only had to fill a couple of holes with newbies. we will have to fill 4-5 holes next year. and to expect our freshmen next year to provide any more for us than they did this year is just not realistic. 4-5 ppg for a freshman at our level of recruiting is about all one can hope for. and with johan tentatively penciled in at the 5, 3-4 ppg is about what we will get there. given the returning players for all the programs that finished above us, it just looks to me like we will struggle next year. i hope i am wrong but i fear not. and mdg, i do agree that 9th seems a trifle low, but 6-7 seems about right. i must admit that if ysu finishes ahead of us i would be pretty peeved. but i do not look for that to happen. we have a major advantage at the coaching spot.

I'm not sold that Mpondo starts next year. Pacher showed a lot of improvement from the start of the year to the end. If he puts on weight like we anticipate and keeps improving at the same pace I think he could be our starter.

I think it is way to early to talk about next season. I understand the nay sayers, but let's play the non-conf. games first, then look to see what we think about the team. I feel very good about the freshmen class. I'm anxious to see our two players who sat out this past year. And I'm confident that the guys that played this year will show much improvement next year. How that all translates into wins and losses remains to be seen.
For now I'm content to speculate about the sweet 16, the women's NCAA, WSU's spring sports, and the Reds. Throw in the Triple Crown, the NFL draft, the NBA draft, and the Tour de France and it will be time for WSU soccer and volleyball to return to campus.

it would be impossible to quantify this, but all the publicity butler gets with their ncaa runs elevates their recruiting to levels we cannot even fathom. it just makes trying to get ourselves into a horizon league champion program that much more difficult. really irritating to me.

I think we get a little coat-tail effect too from Butler. I am sure there are a few recruits especially outside the midwest that didn't know about the Horizon League until Butler's success, and that alone could possible get us into the door of a recruit that we couldn't before. I know other HL coaches have said that it helps them in recruiting, so I would expect Donlon to say the same thing. Whether a team can keep up with Butler's recruiting may rely with the coach doing the recruiting. I think Billy can do wonders once he gets in the door of a recruit.

I think I remember either Alex or Kendall saying one of the reasons they chose WSU was for the chance to play against Butler twice per year.

I love how the HL wastes money.

Anyone know who runs the @butlerbb twitter account? Pretty low-class move to send a 'rub your nose in it' tweet to Cody Zeller right after the game ended.
@czeller40 hey cody!

As classy as Butler's coach and team has been this year, their fans have been the exact opposite. Any true fan would be embarrassed to read their message board this year. It's a shame that their so called fans represent their team so poorly.
