Battle Signs with Wright State Aug. 17, 2010 Armond Battle, a 6-7, 200-pound forward, has signed a letter of intent at attend Wright State University and play basketball for the Raiders, WSU head coach Billy Donlon announced Tuesday. He will have three years of eligibility remaining. Battle, who played last season at New Mexico Junior College, averaged 9.7 points and 3.8 rebounds while shooting 46% from the field in 30 games. He attended the University of Tulsa from high school but did not play due to a torn achilles tendon. At Benilde-St. Margaret High School in Minnesota, he averaged 22.3 points, 7.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists when he led his team to the 3A state championship with a 27-3 record. "Armond has a rare combination of skill and size," Donlon said. "He has very good basketball instincts, and he is used to winning, having won a state championship in high school. Our program is excited to have him join our family." Named all-state during his senior campaign, he shot 64% from the field and 32% from three-point range. As a junior, he averaged 20.1 points and 7.3 rebounds and 15.4 points as a sophomore. Nicknamed Mondo, he was coached by John Moore in high school and has an older sister, Tia, who played basketball at Vanderbilt and Ohio State. Along with Battle, Wright State will have seven newcomers on the roster next season. The Raiders have three recruits from the early-signing period: Kegan Clark, a 6-4 guard from Jeffersonville, Indiana; Cole Darling, a 6-7 forward from Holt, Michigan; and 6-9 forward AJ Pacher from Vandalia, Ohio. WSU also signed Vance Hall, a 6-4 guard from Frankfort, Kentucky and 6-4 guard Matt Vest from Chaminade-Julienne in May while adding Johann Mpondo, a 6-8 forward that transferred to WSU from New Orleans and will be eligible for the 2010-11 season.
