Just thinking out loud but how do we keep Matt Vest in the line up and playing around 30 minutes per game when N'Gai returns?
I might be wrong but I don't see Vaughn, Troy, or N'Gai losing that many minutes to get Matt minutes. I see our three senior guards still playing 34 plus minutes per contest. I don't see us running a 4 guard offense because we are already unsettled on the boards.
Maybe Matt's minutes drops down to 15 - 20 per game when N'Gai returns? It will be interesting to see how coach Donlon handles Matt when N'Gai returns.

I know what you mean. I love Matt's game and would like to see him on the court for 30 minutes or so. My solution would be to kill the 3 guard offense and try 3 big men and 2 guards. Let N'gai and Matt play the point. Hopefully that will offer N'gai some protection of his knee in the short run. If he gets stronger over time, stay with this new arrangement or revert to the 3 guard line up.
Since we have more healthy big men, and we need to give Pacher more minutes, IMO, I think we might better ourselves by starting 3 bigs, gather more boards, and open up more scoring opportunities for the team.

....we need to give Pacher more minutes, IMO, I'm sorry, I could not disagree with this more. I know this is not what this topic is about. Am I to critical of the kid? Or am I just not seeing what you see? Granted at times he looks ok, but when I have seen him on the floor he looks so lost and soft. As far as getting Matt minutes, I really dont think it will be a problem. He may not get the 30 plus but i see a good 20 plus per night. He just rotates around for N'gai, Troy, and VD.

I think Vest, Duggins, Tabler, and Evans will all be getting about 30 minutes a games when Evans is back. I think you're probably right Raider Grad. I do think the big three senior guards will all play a "minimum" of 30 minutes each with Matt picking up the extra minutes. I foresee Matt playing around 20 - 25 minutes per game. How nice of a luxury is to have a player like Matt to sub in if Vaughn, Troy, or N'Gai get into foul trouble!!! How nice will it be for Duggins, Tabler, and Evan to actually be allow to get 2 - 5 minutes each half to catch their breath and hopefully remain fresh for the second half of games and still have their legs at the end of the season. I can't wait to get N'Gai back teamed up with Troy and Vaughn. Our offense will improve substantially with a healthy N'Gai. Can you imagine the looks that Troy and Vaughn will get once N'Gai returns! I can't wait.......................I hope N'Gai is ready for Oakland!

lets not get too overboard here. our guys have only played one good team and no one performed all that well in that game. we will know a lot more after this 3 game stretch.

When Evans returns this year, coach is going to work him back into the lineup slowly. You can be assured that Vest will be getting the bulk of those minutes until Evans does come back to full strength. When Evans is healthy and back to full speed, I think you will see a pretty even distribution of minutes between our 4 guards. If anything, I think you will see Vest on the court more than any of our other guards. He is currently averaging the most minutes of anyone on the team.

I don't think we are going to see much of a decline in Vest's minutes when Evans returns. Donlon is smart enough to know that we aren't just playing for this season. You have to play and prepare your younger players for the future. We really can't afford to play Duggins, Evans, and Tabler all of our guard minutes and go into next season with no guards with any real playing experience for the Raiders. We need some of these guys to gain some valuable playing time, not just mop up minutes. I think Donlon will do a good job at balancing the minutes to play our seniors as much as he can and still allow us to build for the future.
So far it looks like we will be in good hands next year with Vest and NC State transfer Julius Mays in our line up.

I watched Vest a couple of times toward the end of last season, and he looked tired and slower than he did when I saw him mid-season. I think that he is in much better shape than he was as a HS senior, but I don't think he can sustain this many minutes for very long. It is a long, draining season and I think he will be better off if his court time is reduced once N'Gai is healthy.

That's part of my thinking 86grad. Matt is the guy we were going to redshirt so he could put on some pounds, do weight training, and maybe grow some more. Now folks want him on the court as much as possible. Get N'gai back and we'll have five guards. Get Hall back and we'll have 6 available. But right now we can expect to see Matt 30+ per game. At that rate he will be struggling come Feb. I'm sure Donlon isn't going to max his minutes all season. Not only will it effect Matt's performance, it raises the risk of injury. Personally, I want Matt healthy the rest of the season.
Thus my suggestion to go with 3 big men to help with our need for more rebounds. Whether Pacher starts or comes off the bench, he will get more minutes. He can also hit the 3, which would be a real asset to help open the court.

How many WSU freshman have ever scored 18 pts, 3 games into the season..... even if it was against a weak opponent? No way can you keep this kid out of the line-up.

we run a 3 guard lineup most of the time and 4 guys will get most of those minutes. vd, mv, ne & tt will all be on the court an adequate amount of minutes. i hope none of them has to play more than 30-32" per game. GO RAIDERS!!!!!!!!!

Vest is a very heady player. He just has a knack for being in the right place at the right time.

With N'gai back in the line-up we are solid in the guard position. All 3 senior guards and Vest will have plenty of minutes. Our guards are great! Vaughn is the senior leader we alll look to and have great confidence in, Tabler is amazing and has decided his senior year will be memorable, N'gai is just getting his legs back but he will be an amazing leader we will all be proud of, and Vest is Vest. He is going to be the future of the Raider Nation...life is good!!!!

After watching the Oakland game it is pretty obvious that Coach Donlon plans on playing all 4guards as much as he can. I just hope we find a way to get Battle on the court for more minutes too. We haven't even started to tap his athletic potential.
