Can anyone (perhaps a season ticket holder or something) get a reasonable answer from Bob Grote as to WHY the ticket prices went up?? I know we've discussed this many times, but I've yet to read an answer from anyone really that justifies that ticket prices. If it weren't for my 2 free student tickets I'd probably be HLNing every game I could I believe you mean Bob Grant. Not sure Mr. Grote will know too much.

Ticket prices are probably the number one issue, I remember my first college basketball experiences were with my family and I don't think we could've afforded it at 17 bucks a game or would've made the effort. The love of the game starts with young kids looking up to our boys and girls and parents explaining the game to them when they aren't running around high fiving Rowdy. Tickets aren't $17 for kids. They are $10. I don't think scheduling or winning is a big part of it. You are crazy if you don't think scheduling has much to do with it. People are willing to pay to see good D1 ball. They want to see teams they know. Playing 2 D2 teams isn't going to cut it and loosing isn't going to cut it. Take a look at our attendance over the years. It isn't a coincidence that the years we did the best in attendance was also our most successful years on the court. Only one game has been at 1PM the rest of the games have been on Saturdays at 2 or 7 at night, not exactly a crazy time to play ball. Playing a game at 1 PM on New Years day when the whole world was out partying the night before was idiotic. We played Southern on a Sunday night at 7:00. I don't know why it wasn't on Saturday. We also played Tusculum Saturday 12/11 at 3:00. Should have been a night game. I've weighed in the TO stuff enough, but where does this Bombers thing come from anyway? We hired guys last summer to run our timeouts and help with marketing. They are from the dayton dragons, not the bombers. They still suck and should be canned.

Here iare two problems taken from true life...
First
My fiance and I are WSU grads, myself 29 and her 32, and weare loyal supporters. I have attended every home game for the last 8 years and have brought her along for the last two. However this year is different for financial and logistic reasons (we live in Mason now). We havent attended ONE game and I can catch the games on HLN and it works perfect and I save 50 bucks. It doesnt mean I dont LOVE WSU, it just means that I save gas, money, and don't have to experience the horrific time-out shenanigans anymore.
2nd problem, and here is a much larger issue...
We met some new friends this past summer and both are WSU grads as well. Both 29 yrs old and Centerville residents. She herself is a former WSU softball player. They are UD season ticket holders..........
Say what?? I mock him and give them both flack for it non-stop but his reasoning is hard to dispute. He says the atmosphere is better (shocker) and its the truth. As much as I HATE to admit such blasphamy, it feels downright drab in the Nuitter Center most of the time.
He likes basketball, but he likes the ATMOSPHERE it offers more. For his money, regardless of wether the team is better or worse than WSU, it isnt a significant enough difference to make a switch. That's hard to argue with and we all know it. We can harp "school spirit", or our Hoops squad is better all we want, but until we fix THIS problem, we have a very high mountain to climb.

While some of these quotes were taken out of the context of my post, I'd say your right. I am sure that a lot of the students couldn't tell you anything about the team from 3 years ago or about our record this year. I said the record isn't important to the non-fan student populationThere are a lot of factors that go into scheduling that aren't centered on if it's the MOST convenient time. i'm sorry I forgot about the Sunday night game or that I was off by an hour for a three o clock game. Corey Griest has the title of Director of Promotions and he was not hired this past Summer. The kids on the floor are WSU students, not guys from the Dragons. Fact.

The size of the family fun zone decreased, but I doubt that has changed attendance. The new family fun zone sections are not selling out, so it's not like we are turning away people looking for cheaper tickets.

You are right, Corey Griest was not hired last summer. He was hired 2 years ago. I was wrong about the date, but everything else we have been talking about still holds true. He was hired to work here from the Dayton Dragons where he was their corporate marketing manager. He is responsible for the stupid timeout games. He is also responsible for picking the kids that run the timeout entertainment. It's his responsibility as director of promotions. www.wsuraiders.com/genrel/griest_corey00.html

I beg to differ with you. I don't know how many fun zone tickets are sold but most people that buy them usually don't sit where the fun zone is. They usually head for the side lines.
I got two teenagers and they don't get in for 10.00. If I have been paying 17.00 for them all this time I feel pretty stupid.
Game times have been scattered this year as well. Sunday night games are not my favorite for sure, but our home schedule other than the conference schedule did not have any opponents that stand out from the crowd. I think Oakland had a good team but most people think they are in California. Miami was the only other game that got some attention and at that there were a lot of Miami fans at the game.

Less than 1/2 of the fun zone tickets are sold each game. There are always some available. And I hate to break it to you, but you have been paying too much for your teenagers. They are on $10 for them. www.wsuraiders.com/tickets/wrst-tickets.html

Looks like I will save 14.00 a game so that means I will only spend 84.00 / game for 4 people including food and drink. Feel real stupid now.

Oakland is in my alma mater's conference and I, like many, thought they were from CA. haha Wanted to make you feel a little better about the ticket thing.

This is just another problem with the Nutter Center ticket office and the kids they hire to work the ticket lines. There should be signs to tell people buying ticket the different prices. The people selling tickets should also be asking if you are buying for all adults or if you have kids, or if any of you are alumni. How would you know if they don't advertise it or ask you? That is the kind of stuff that drives me nuts about the Nutter Center.

I completely agree about the Chris Collins part. As a broadcaster who knows what it's like to broadcast games entirely solo, I know it's not an easy thing to do. It takes a special talent to do so on a regular basis.
I also know that whenever I needed advice when I called games, he was there to help me out and give me pointers on what I should do. I think I asked him more questions during my first year as Sports Director compared to the SID people ;D.
Hats off to Chris Collins!

As a student I can only speak for students. with that being said if the ticket office is bad, honestly I do not blame people for not wanting to deal with rude service. that could be a problem for the CASUAL fan. the parking is annoying but even with high attendence like the Butler game, I still dont think it is as bad as UD's parking, so Im not sure if that is a reason. As a student though I do not understand why more students do not come out. we get 2 free tickets and rewards for going?! are you kidding why not go? I really think that students like to b#%*@! and moan about WSU and im pretty sick of it. If i didnt have people to go with I would probably still go lol but for the CAUSAL student, they probably need a group of people to go. its one of those things that us kids have in our system, "ill go if you go". it is really stupid but that is honestly what i think. the more people that are in the Nutt C cheering for the Raiders, the more the causal fan and student will come back for another fun experience; especially if they win (which we do at home knock on wood). there DOES need to be better advertisement on campus though. I usually come with a large group of friends and we all enjoy ourselves. occasionally i brought a friend that did not go to WSU and they enjoyed themselves too. however they would comment on the timeout entertainment (the games). now this surely is not the main reason attendence is not great, but it is pretty lame. and I know Josh and Drew are students, but its getting pretty bad. I asked what their school usually does and they said they just have the band play or have the cheer team/dance team on. I mean I wouldnt mind the games but having someone open a present or catch tee shirts with a basket are not fun to watch. Heres something easy to do, have someone shoot a half court shot and if they make it a certain section/row gets free drinks, do it again during another timeout and a certain section/row gets free food. give them like 2 shots if you want and have the band play the rest of the way; or my favorite EJ. would get a lot of fans stay loud.
