No offense taken. I've worked with HS athletes in other sports for 18 yrs so I have some familiarity with the recruiting process. Kids that I've been around have just a vague, general knowledge of most of the college programs that recruit them in the beginning of the process. Reputation and image is hugely important to a program getting a foot in the door on recruits. Of course all players want to go to the dance, but so far we've only gone twice in 20 yrs. Our string of 20 win seasons and great facilities are terrific selling points. Post season success, any post season success would be another bullet in Coach D's gun in recruiting.

Post season success, any post season success would be another bullet in Coach D's gun in recruiting. You are making the assumption that Coach Donlon would want to use the CBI or CIT as a selling point. Considering how he has mocked both tournaments in the past, I don't think he would use them as a selling point.

If we don't get into the NCAA or NIT, I think Coach Donlon would rather get our freshmen class into the weight room than spend a couple more weeks playing games in a tournament no one cares about. I think he would also rather hit the recruiting trail trying to fill our last scholarship. Those 2 things are going to make us a better team next year.

There are teams in those tournaments with RPIs in the 200 range - not exactly a prestigious tournament to be associated with.

I had lunch with some grade school/HS friends today. After lunch I was walking out to the cars with my HS friend and he said he admired WSU for making the decision announced in todays paper. He is a UD season ticket holder/graduate and he said he is fed up with UD. He was put off when UD recently made a statement that they'd go to any post-season tournament that would have them. He feels that we have had some major injuries this year and that we had made the right decision.
I have agreed with WSU in the past when they have taken this position. Let the players rest, work in the weight room, focus on their studies and let the coaches focus on recruiting and building a solid schedule for next season. I know this is pre-mature, but I think next year we, and the HL, will have great shots at getting multiple teams into the NCAA and NIT. I know YSU and UIC are at the bottom of the HL, but I worried as much about playing them as any other team this season. I know we'll miss our seniors next season, but I think when we get into HL games in late Dec. that we'll be ready to fight for the title.
