cincy, i missed that announcement. if you are talking about our preseason exhibition game i have no problem with it. if this is actually one of our 29 or 30 regular season games then it is a disgrace to our program. and people wonder why we are considered the 2nd class program in town. almost as pathetic is that we have fans who are not even bothered that we have a home game against a div iii team. whats next a juco coming to town. just embaressing to our program.

Put it this way Keith. What's the difference between a D-III game and a low-major game against a team like Florida A&M?
Kenyon College isn't going to drag down your RPI if you win by 40. FAMU will.
Edit: I used FAMU because they were on Dayton's schedule last year.

I am more embarrassed that some of our fans can't spell "embarrassing." Seriously, We played 2 of these non D1 games last year. We are only playing 1 this year. We are also playing 3 ranked BCS teams this year. I see this schedule as a huge upgrade over anything we have had recently.

three thoughts. first, our home schedule has 1 team whose rpi last year was in top 150. one. + of course a sorry exhibition against a div iii team. second, black, famu is a div i program with div 1 scholarship athletes. that is what we are and that is what we should play. third, a number of years ago, maybe 5-6, another local program had a rumor going that they were scheduling a non div i team on their schedule. might have been findley, kenyon or wittenberg, not sure which. their fans went ballistic, the board about melted down until it was found that the game was one of their exhibition games. raider fans can't even generate a whimper about this sorry game. so we will probably continue to have them. lastly it is always good to know we have the idiotic spelling/grammar police.

We play TWO teams at home that finished in the top 150 in the RPI last year: UC at 36 and Idaho at 137. 2. FAMU had an RPI of 329 last year. Playing them instead of a D3 team would kill our RPI no matter how much we beat them by. Playing a D3 team neither helps or hurts our RPI. We barely missed getting into the NIT a few years ago because we played a crappy D1 team that brought down our RPI when we could have played a D3 team that could have helped get us in. Coach Donlon plans to play at least 1 non D1 team each year. I don't like that he is doing it, but I understand and accept why he is doing it. 3. Raider fans don't need to worry about bitching and moaning about anything. We all know that you will bitch and moan enough for ALL of us. 4. Life is too short. Learn to take a joke.

I don't buy this false choice we are given, namely that we have to play a team ranked over 300 or play a D 2 or 3 school so a loss won't hurt us should it happen. Why not do the fans a favor and get a game with a team ranked around 150 or so and let the chips fall where they may.

Why not do the fans a favor and get a game with a team ranked around 150 or so and let the chips fall where they may. It's all about revenue. We need to play a certain number of home basketball games in order to generate enough revenue to cover the cost of our program. And since we are giving up the chance to play a home/home series when we agree to participate in a neutral site tournament, we have to buy a home game to balance out the number of home and away games we play. We cannot afford to pay a top 150 team to come play at the Nutter Center without a return game. We can either afford to pay a low D1 team or a non D1 team to play at our place without a return game. Until we start bringing in 7-8000 fans a game, expect more of the same.
