eat plenty of steak and have a few milk shakes I was at the mall today and saw Kegan, Cole, Vance, and AJ walk by. I hope they were going to the foodcourt to eat some greasy Chinese food.

Number 2 for me is using our players in a way that utilizes their strengths better. Cole and Armond are not power forwards and should not have to bang with the big boys. I want them to put on weight and get stronger, but I want to see them at small forward next year where they will be able to dominate smaller players with their size. Rush the Court, your post was DEAD ON especially concerning Cole and Armond playing out of position. Unfortunetly it probably will not happen. On coach Donlon's last show a caller specifically asked him why Cole isn't at the 3 and coach said he needs three guards because Cole can't handle the ball well enough in his offense. He even noted that Cole was particularly weak dribbling with his left hand. This will probably also mean we will struggle to rebound against most teams. Let's be honest, if Cole and Armond are playing the 4 it will be hard for them to rebound versus bigger players. They are both well under 200 lbs. I dream of Cole and Armond playing the small forward but it doesn't looking pomising according to coach Donlon.

Rock, Coach Donlon said Cole didn't have the dribbling skills to play the 3 currently. I think the key word is currently. He did say that Cole was working on his ball handling skills, so it isn't out of the realm that Cole could play the 3 in our system next year if he continues to improve.

I was listening to the coaches show while driving my son from practice and I'll admit I just caught his comments in passing so I'm glad that you clarified his statement. Let's hope Cole works diligently and passionately on his dribbling skills so that he can handle the 3 position. I really think if Cole and play the 3 it would help this team tremendously with rebounding plus Cole won't get "beat up" trying to defend power forwards.

I think you both heard him correctly. Coach said that he did not have any plans to go away from our 3 guard system and that Cole currently did not have the ball handling skills to play the 3. He did give me hope that we might potentially use Armond and Cole as the third guard in the future because he said we were working on improving their ball handling skills.

The athletic department does plan to fill in part of the pond sometime in the next 3-5 years. They are also replacing the center videoboard this summer and yes it will have a real scoreboard on it. Any updates on what the new features will be besides the score? WIll it be bigger? Wider? HD? etc.... I think if we are going to do this it needs to be as big and technologically advanced as possible! Not just because we all want something sweet, but so we dont need to replace it again anytime soon. I hope we put some serious thought into this and dont just slap a new one up there! I don't know any other details. Bob Grant mentioned that we would be getting the new video board at one of the last few coach's shows. He said it would be installed this summer and he mentioned that it would have the scoreboard on it after someone joked about the old one. I don't think he mentioned any other details about it.

I think people over estimate the parkng problems at Nutter. Wright State did a survey with former season ticket holders 2-3 years ago to determine why they stopped purchasing season tickets. The overwhelming #1 reason was parking issues. That is the main reason they have put into motion the plan to fill in most of the pond in the next 3-5 years as funding becomes available.

I agree with everyone saying that team needs to hit the weight room big time in the off season. I also hope the players work on their over skill level.
Coaching:, 2 things I hope the evaluate what work and what didn't work with this group. It was a learning experience for everyone this past season. Secondly with one schoolarship for 2012, I want to see the coaches recruiting an impact player to fill it. Go out and get the best post player we can find.
From the athletic department...let's see what we can do about increasing interest and attendance. Parking issues are what they are. You're going to have that no matter what arena you play in. Yeah, the pond sucks to walk around. But, that isn't the only thing that keeps people away.

I am a season ticket holder, and if I ever need to buy extra tickets I buy them earlier than right before the game. But I am curious to know how many ticket windows are open prior to a game. My guess would be 2, or at most 3.
The ticket office in the backside has been open for years, but it needs to be larger than one person selling tickets. If they can't enlarge that area, perhaps they should use the selling area in the back lobby as a second outlet.
I personally think the parking problem at WSU is, at worst, no worse than at UD. I have gone to UD games with a season ticket holder. We always stay after the game to hear the post game radio show. Then we take our time exiting the building. And then we sit in the car while it warms up. And then we finally begin to make our exit. And there are still lines.
I use to work at WSU and I remember suggesting to those involved in the construction of the Nutter that we should try to get a direct exit from the backside of the Nutter directly onto to I-675 in both directions. I think that was not done due to the nearby access to I-675 off of Fairfield Rd. The only way to facilitate traffic flow would be to do what Columbus does at OSU football game. Allow the police to alter traffic patterns before and after games rather than just following the regular traffic lights signals. Prior to the games allow 3 lanes in and only one lane out, for buses and EVs. After the games allow 3 lanes to exit and allow only one lane in, for buses and EVs. I also think maps should be available to show possible routes coming and going. If you exit the back way, for example, there are numerous options to follow. The worst time, of course, is during the "shopping days" between Thanksgiving and Christmas when the Mall traffic is heavy.
Another option is to expand the existing campus roads and add a road running parallel to Fairfield taking traffic west to the next traffic light, away from the congestion back at the main entrance to the Nutter.
A good option that is in our future will be when WPAFB incorporates SR-444 and a new SR-444 is built where Kauffman now exists. Putting in two lanes in each direction with a turning lane should greatly aid traffic leaving the back way if done with that purpose in mind.

Parking at UD might be just as bad as parking at the Nutter Center, but the difference is they have 12,000 season ticket holders willing to put up with it. We have less than 2,500 season ticket holders and average around 5,000 fans a game. We need to do everything we can to attract new fans. If that means making parking more convienent, do it. If it means improving the box office or concession stands, do it. The only way we are going to turn WSU into the type of program we really want it to be is to attract a bigger fan base. We need the revenue from more paying customers.

Without a doubt, the number one thing we need to do this off season is get into the weight room. We will have good height at every position next year and we should have good depth at every position. We need those players to be strong. Number 2 for me is using our players in a way that utilizes their strengths better. Cole and Armond are not power forwards and should not have to bang with the big boys. I want them to put on weight and get stronger, but I want to see them at small forward next year where they will be able to dominate smaller players with their size. I hope to see a rotation of Mpondo/Pritchett at center and Pacher/Sledge at power forward. AJ isn't a true back to the basket center. I want one post player in their at all times that wants to play with his back to the basket (Mpondo/Pritchett) to go along with one that can spread defenses with their outside shooting and be a secondary rebounder (Sledge/Pacher). +1. Well said!

I can't wait to graduate, if only to purchase season tickets and feel like I'm contributing to the athletic department. Also rumor has it that 1st year grads get a discount on season tickets? Eh? Hope so. Also, like everyone else, can't wait to see what these new freshman do next year!!
However, I am MOST excited about seeing Darius Cartharn and Julius Mays. I hope my expectations aren't too high, but for some reason I have this feeling that they are going to be BEASTS on the court.

I think people over estimate the parkng problems at Nutter. Parking is an issue at any large venue. Have you ever had to take the bus to the factory parking lot at UD. It takes forever to get on a bus after the game. We usually try to get to Nutter early enough to park in the upper lots. We did have to park in the outer lots once, and it was only a 3-4 minute walk. Although, it takes them forever to get people out of those lots. We are thinking about getting season tickets for next year, but I was disappointed that unless you pay for premium seats, you are not guaranteed a spot in the upper lots. To me all season ticket holders should be able to park in the upper lots. This could be a deal breaker for me. Also they need to do a lot more to attract Alumni. We have never received anything about WSU basketball or season tickets from WSU, and we used to have season tickets. Also, the Alumni Zone needs to be alot better. The cheap beer is nice, but can't they offer more than chips and popcon? And I don't know how many time they had one bartender working and it takes for ever just to get a beer. Also, why do they quit selling beer after halftime is over. The second half lasts a lot longer than the first half. The was one game when there was a womens game after the men's game and the bartender told me she had to quit selling and then start again when the womens game started. That is just stupid. I agree the management needs fixed. I went to the box office and they could not even find a season ticket brochure for me. I love WSU basketball, but I don't think the athletic department, Nutter management, or the Alumni know what they are doing The reason they stop selling beer after halftime is because it is the law. Every sports venue does it. If they get caught selling beer after halftime, 3rd quarter, 7th inning, etc... then they become liable for that person once they leave the arena. For example, a while back someone at the concessions of an NFL game sold a beer to a patron after the 3rd quarter was over. That individual was already intoxicated but decided to drive home after the game. He ended up getting into an accident and killing someone. It was found out that the concession stand sold this gentlemen beer after they were allowed too and the franchise was sued for it. Although I understand the frustration, it is a very important and life saving measure and it keeps liability away from the Nutter Center and its employees.

Donlon wants next season's Raiders to be 'most physical team in the league'By Kyle Nagel, Staff Writer March 7, 2011 MILWAUKEE, Wis. — About 20 minutes after the 2010-11 season ended, Wright State basketball coach Billy Donlon was asked about next season, and he was quick with a response. “Here’s what I know. We’re gonna lift weights. A lot,” Donlon said in the post-game interview room after Wright State dropped a 73-59 defeat against Cleveland State in a Horizon League tournament quarterfinal on Friday night. “We’re gonna get known as the most physical team in the league. I don’t care ... we’re gonna foul people, legally, like we’re gonna knock people to the ground. That’s what we’re gonna do.” It was clear afterward, after Donlon hugged the three seniors in the interview room with him — Vaughn Duggins, Cooper Land and Troy Tabler — that the Raiders’ lack of weight throughout the season has been a thorn in his side. He has discussed it during the year, of course, but he was firmest about it in the bowels of U.S. Cellular Arena on Friday night. The season ended with a disappointing 2-5 finish in the final seven games, a sixth-place finish in the closest league race in 24 years and a head-spinning scoring blitz by Cleveland State. Looking forward, Donlon doesn’t want to see those late-game and late-season fades. “Guys in our program, they’re either gonna be with it or they’re not,” Donlon said. “We’re gonna lift weights, get bigger and stronger and we’re gonna be a much more physical team.” www.daytondailynews.com/dayton-sports/wright-state-university-raiders/donlon-wants-next-seasons-raiders-to-be-most-physical-team-in-the-league-1100332.html
