As I see it, Bob Grant has some tough decisions he needs to make in the near future. He has 3 options that make the most sense to me. He can keep WSU in the HL and hope that the conference can weather the loss of Butler and rebuild with a different line up of teams. He can try to get into a more stable basketball conference like the MVC. If we approach the MVC together, the MVC might be willing to expand by adding 2 of the better HL programs. WSU and CSU would make good travel partners in the MVC and allow the conference to go to east/west divisions to save on travel costs. We could also make the big jump and add football and eventually try to get into the MAC. What does everyone think?

I, like many others here, would like to see WSU add football but I don't think it will ever be a realistic goal unless we get a few dozen more multi-billionaire donors. Here are the problems with adding football: 1. We would need a stadium. Where would be put it and where are we getting a hundred million plus to build it. 2. We would need practice and workout facilities for football. We would need another 20 million for that. 3. Title 9. We would need to add enough women's sports to balance out all of the football scholarships we are adding to become Title 9 compliant or we would need to drop several current men's sports to do it. 4. We would have to double our yearly athletic department budget to even be on the low end of the MAC. Our budget in 2009 was a little over 9.4 million. MAC budgets (2009)$25,583,748 Miami (Oh.) $24,441,732 Central Michigan $22,994,888 Akron $22,898,240 Buffalo $22,575,238 Ohio $20,211,212 Western Michigan $20,039,546 Toledo $19,508,308 Eastern Michigan $19,446,680 Kent State $18,772,992 Ball State $18,452,594 Northern Illinois $17,040,836 Bowling Green www.bbstate.com/info/schools-budget

I think the HL is our only real option right now. We are located too far east for the MVC and I just can't see football being an option for WSU in my lifetime.

We need to focus on becoming the best bball program possible. Let's shoot for becoming the next Butler. That's prob a 10 year plan & all indications are that if Butler leaves the HL it will prob not happen for another 3-5 years. Butler elevated their program while in the HL why can't we? As for the MAC, are you kidding me? We are already a higher rated bball conf. Why step down? +1

Based on my posts in the other thread I think it's obvious I think we should stay in the HL and try to improve the conference.

I'd hate to see WSU anywhere else than the HL

I'd love to see us add football too, but I know it is unrealistic so I chose stay with the HL.

I don't particularly think "many other here" would like to see WSU add football. It would be a money pit. I think the HL is a great league. I don't see another league we could move to and it be anything more than a lateral move.
