I love the moves. I just wish we didn't make the announcement on a Friday. Everyone knows that if you want to bury a story you release it on Friday because no one reads the Saturday paper. This should have been a Monday or Tuesday announcement to get better media coverage of it.

I don't have a problem with Brendan becoming our next assistant coach. I think his connections in Illinois would make him a solid recruiter. I just don't know what he would bring to the table in regards to player development. I have 2 other names I think Donlon should consider: Bill Donlon and Mike Mullins. Bill Donlon is Coach Donlon's father. He was a high school coach in Chicago, assistant college coach for Providence and Northwestern. The biggest thing our coaching staff lacked the last 2 years in my book was experienced assistant coaches who weren't just yes men. All good college coaches need good assistant coaches that are going to given them honest feedback and opinions. I don't think Donlon trusted or respected his staff enough last year to heed their advice. I don't think that would be a problem with Bill Donlon. He might be a good 1 year addition that will solidify this staff this year and allow Donlon to go after a top assistant next spring when coaching changes usually occur. The other coach I think would look at is Mike Mullins, Brendan Mullins father. He runs the Illinois Wolves AAU program that sent Bobo Drummond and Jacoby Roddy to WSU. He knows all of the top coaches in AAU ball and high school coaches in Illinois so he would be a great recruiter. He has also put together the top AAU program in the country and those teams are built on strong defenses. I think his coaching philosophy would mesh great with Donlon and his ability to develop players is just what we need. I called this a month ago. ;D

It doesn't feel good to be picked last in the HL this year.

It doesn't feel good to be picked last in the HL this year. But it is appropriate considering what everyone in the HL knows about us. This team isn't getting any respect because it hasn't earned any. The team is over 1/2 new and the returning 1/2 didn't do anything last year to garner any respect. I hope our players use this to motivate themselves and come ready to play every game. When all is said and done, these preseason ranking don't mean a thing. It's where you finish at the end of the year that matters. For Donlon's sake, I hope we don't finish as predicted. If we end up in 9th place, Donlon isn't going to be around next season.

Wright st. and our fans should be proud to be represented by these two MEN! FULL support will do nothing but help, greatness comes with patients, not with instant grits, I've been a Saints fan since the bag on the head days, even @ 1-4, full support baby we believe no matter what, that's why they still in New Orleans. Ask yourself this as fans will kids want to play in a half filled arena with half hearted fans? www.horizonleague.org/video.html?id=7433Attachments:

Sounds great for grade school sports, but this is college ball where grown men are paid large salaries with the expectation to produce wins, where grown men are given college scholarships (renewed annually) with the expectations they need to perform. When you charge fans hundreds of dollars to see your team play, those fans get to have expectations on those coaches and players. That's today's college world.
Wright State no longer has a huge fan-base and it has been shrinking year to year due it's lack of success. Donlon inherited a team with 4 strait 20 wins seasons. He is in year 3 of his tenure and his teams have been on a steady downward track. I agree with Tipp City Raider, if Wright State finishes anywhere near this predicted finish, Donlon is gone at the end of the year and our next coach will most likely gut much of this roster to bring in his own players.
If our coaches and players want to play in front of huge crowds of supportive fans, they are going to have to prove they deserve that support. If they want to be around next year, they are going to have to prove that they shouldn't be replaced.

The new recruits sound like a step up from the fellows who have left, excluding May. But most of them are freshmen which suggests that we'll see them at times, but maybe not a lot except to replace players in foul trouble, injured, or ill.
I said last spring that Donlon should have the opportunity to improve on last season's finish. I will be at the games cheering for the team. But if we finish 7th, 8th, or 9th, I think WS will need to make the tough call. Billy inherited a team that had won 20 games for 4 straight years, a positive base on which to build, and since then we have declined. A third year of decline would be untenable IMO. That is a message that has to be addressed by the powers that be, as we can't just shut our eyes and cross our fingers as some are apt to do.
But for now, I support the team and staff in their efforts. I hope they surprise the league by finishing much higher than 9th.
