With the verbal commit from Benzinger we may now have zero, one, or two open spots for next season, depending upon what happens with Sledge and Vest. Sledge could already be in our past given his current situation. Vest could play this year and be done with his four years of basketball.Or one or both of them could be here next year. We could actually have up to 3 scholarships for next year. You already mentioned Sledge and Vest, but no one has considered Hopkins may only be here one year. He is in a similar situation to Julius Mays. He is a senior school-wise and a junior eligibility-wise. If he graduates this year, he could transfer to a school that offers a graduate degree WSU doesn't offer and play next year without having to sit out.

FloridaRaider, I was going to repeat what BigD just posted. Somewhere along the way the DDN knocked me off...still says my email and password are valid but that they don't match...tried to re-register and it says my email is already in there. I have found that in 99% of the cases that going to the printed version hasn't really been worth the quest. I can go through the sports in less than a commercial break and I usually ignore the rest of the paper because by the time the evening rolls around it can't be that important if I haven't heard about it on the radio or tv. I agree that posting a reference to one of these DDN subscriber only articles doesn't do much for me as far as this board goes.

Did anyone go to the season ticket holder event tonight? Updates? Coach Donlon, talked about the schedule. He said he also wanted a better home schedule (and was pretty adamant about it), but that nobody would play us. He said to schedule 2 people have to agree. He didn't want to play too many games on the road because he said that was unfair to the seniors. He said he contacted a lot of the top mid-majors and only one would agree to play us, but a date couldn't get worked out this year, so we will play them next year (I believe he was referring to Davidson, but not sure). He even stated that one school which had been to recent NCAA tournaments was dropping out of the tournament we entered if they had to play us. He said he was proud of the team's academics as we will have 3 seniors that will graduate in 3.5 year here at WSU. He also didn't mention Sledge by name, but said he treats his players as he believes their parents would treat them when they do something wrong. He said as a coach, he promised to the parents and players that he would be an extension of the parents when the kids were in school.

Anybody know what happened with Ryan Bowie? I've seen some team photos posted to players IG and twitter accounts and he didn't seem to be present. Also he is not listed on the team roster. There aren't JUCO transfer rules that players have to sit out a year.
Also guess who was present for those team photos? Sledge. From everything I've heard sounds like he's still practicing with the team and everything as usual as well. Is BD really gonna let him play? I'm okay with it because he would definitely help the team out a ton as an inside presence, but I can't imagine the fan base reacting very well to that.

Ryan Bowie quit the team after 1 quarter this summer. We signed Center Daniel Meyer after Bowie left. Sledge is suspended until the outcome of his court case. He was present for team pictures but he I am pretty sure he hasn't been practicing with the team.

So where does that put us for scholarship count next year? I know at one point we had one spot left but I'm not sure if that was factoring in Bowie. Furthermore, does this mean we have an open one this year? Could there be a scholly available for Goose?

Furthermore, does this mean we have an open one this year? Could there be a scholly available for Goose? All 13 scholarships are used this year. We have one scholarship left for next year and will most likely add a post player. (I could also see us trying to fit Joe Thomasson into this class somehow if he wants in).
