I'd like to think we can win that game against Notre Dame. We beat two nationally ranked teams this season that are better than Notre Dame. Guess we will just have to wait and see.

For some reason I thought 2 teams made it out of each regional...don't know where I got that idea from. I really like our chances against Notre Dame, and OU obviously. However, looking at Illinois' body of work...that's a scary team. They went 48-6-1 on the season, and went 4-2 in exhibition play against MLB DL teams. They went 22-2 at home all season, lost 1 conference game, and won 25 straight games before going 2-2 in the Big10 tournament. Scary. And in all likelihood, we will have to beat them twice to come out of this bracket. But let's start with ND =]

Im not sure how the #1 seeds in each bracket are ranked but Illinois has to be near the top. Beating them twice is certainly a tall order.

More about the Champaign Regional: ... Notre Dame: The Irish (36-21) earned an at-large big and their first tournament appearance since 2006 after finishing second in the always deep and dangerous ACC. The Irish don't score that much - ranking 268th in average, 217th in OBP and 173rd in slugging - but have a strong pitching staff that finished 21st in the country in ERA. Wright State: The Raiders (36-17) can hit (.294 average, .379 OBP, .419 slugging) and pitch (3.38). Can they do it against elite competition? They lost two of three early in the season to both Ole Miss and Miami, both of which are in the NCAA Tournament. ... illinois.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1769138

Another Preview of the 3 visiting teams in the Champaign Regional: About Wright State: ...
No. 3 Wright State (41-15 overall and 21-8 Horizon League, 1st Place)If you know nothing about the Raiders, know this: they will not be afraid of Notre Dame or our Fighting Illini. There’s not a team in the country that challenged itself more than the Raiders did in the opening weeks of the season. In the opening weeks of the season, the Raiders traveled to fellow NCAA participant Ole Miss, then to No. 7 Miami and then to No. 9 Missouri State. On the surface, it was a failed experiment as the Raiders wound up 3-6 against that schedule. A closer examination, however, reveals that four of those six losses came by one run. This is the kind of club that has made a name for itself at the mid-major level in recent years by knocking off big-name programs each year. So if Notre Dame gets caught looking ahead, the Raiders could easily find themselves in the winner’s bracket heading into Saturday. Second-year head coach Greg Lovelady took over for Rob Cooper, who he served as an assistant coach for nine seasons before Cooper departed for Penn State. Under Cooper, the Raiders reeled off 30-win seasons in seven of nine seasons and Lovelady has kept that tradition moving, winning 30+ games in each of his first two years at the helm. Lovelady boasts a solid mix of pitching and offense. Offensively, the Raiders are led by R-Sr. CF Mark Fowler, who is hiting .341 with 16 doubles, 2 triples, 5 home runs and 38 RBIs. Also producing runs for the Raiders are So. SS Mitch Roman, who his hitting .336 with 11 doubles, 3 triples, 1 home run and 38 RBIs; Jr. OF Ryan Fucci, who is hitting .289 with 15 doubles, 1 triple, 13 home runs and 45 RBIs and R-Fr. Gabe Snyder, who is hitting .272 with 17 doubles, 1 triple, 6 home runs and 48 RBIs. On the mound, Lovelady backs up solid starting pitching with a deep bullpen that is equally effective working in long and short stretches. The three primary starters are all right-handers — Sr. Luke Mamer (4-2, 2.85, 50 strikeouts, 10 walks in 72.2 innings); Jr. Jesse Scholtens (6-4, 3.16, 69 strikeouts, 20 walks in 82.2 innings) and R-So. Trevor Swaney (4-2, 4.31, 30 strikeouts, 18 walks in 71.0 innings). The bullpen boasts a number of highly effective relievers – the best of the bunch being an Illinois product, LHP E.J. Trapino of Richmond-Burton High School. Trapino is 8-0 in 35 appearances (no starts) with 64 strikeouts and 28 walks in just 49.1 innings. He is joined by RHP Andrew Elliot, who boasts 11 saves and is currently 5-4 with a 2.44 ERA in 28 appearances covering 44.1 innings with 52 strikeouts and 17 walks. ... illiniboard.com/2015/05/27/the-road-to-omaha/

Ha, love the Illinois site saying "the best of the bunch" of our relievers is Trapino, when the next guy they mention (Elliott) was named HL Relief Pitcher of the Year.
That being said, I agree with them and it goes to show how fantastically awesome this bullpen is. Go Raiders! Let's do this!

twizman, I think mentioning Trapino first as a reliever is probably a combination of his win-loss record and being someone they consider as a local. When I mention the relievers I usually always include at a minimum Blair and Van Horn. Of course, Elliott will always be first choice to close out games that are close.

Game is on watch ESPN for those interested.
1st inning was quiet for both teams.
WSU got a leadoff hit in the 2nd, by Mitch Roman. Snyder advanced him to 2nd. Fucci got on, and then was hit in play by a ground ball of the bat of Matt Morrow, which ruled him out. However, John Brodner just tripled and plated 2 runs for the good guys.
Going bottom 2. 2-0 Raiders

WSU manufacturer's a run after Fowler singled, and went to 2nd on a groundout. Stole 3rd, and scored on a cheap infield hit by Roman that travelled about 10 feet.
Going to bottom 3, 3-0 Raiders
