Tommy, it worked out well for both Missouri State and us. Additional games against UD and Buffalo would have been a drag on both our RPI's, which in our case may have negatively impacted our seed and geographic placement.
We did have some luck--It was thought MSU was going to be good, but I'm not sure anyone thought they would be top-10 RPI. Same with Ole Miss. They had the #1 RPI Strength of Schedule.
It seems to me, Baseball is similar to women's basketball when scheduling. Neither has the perceived risk factor associated with men's basketball away games and neither is a valued revenue generator (for most programs). So, getting a top-50 program to come to our facility isn't as challenging as with men's hoops. The issue with baseball, being a northern tier state, is the weather and the concern to get the games played.
The trick now is to get more of those top-50 programs like Missouri State (and Bradley...we played them here in the past w/UD and they were an at-large this year) along with Power 5 programs to play us in Fairborn.

Good post, mrose. If I remember correctly once UD's field was considered unplayable I believe we were going to host the invitational with maybe a game at Athletes In Action in Xenia. Eventually it was decided that our field couldn't get the weather to cooperate either.
I'm sure most of us give priority to men's basketball. I pay attention to how baseball does in the first month but, I need to get thru men's and women's basketball and wait for 60 degree temps before sitting at baseball games. I think I remember sitting in snow showers to watch Michigan play at WSU but, I have enough problems contending with the seemingly ever present winds at the baseball stadium these days.
It was fun following baseball ( and some softball ). Now it should be quiet until the Fall sports.

Are we in danger of losing anyone early to the MLB Draft, specifically Fucci or Scholtens? Probably depends on where they're picked, I know, but what's the vibe with those guys? Would love to have them back.

Andrew Elliot was drafted in the 30th round today by the Orioles.

I can't believe Mark Fowler wasn't even drafted. I figured he'd be a late pick (rounds 30-40) but I definitely thought he'd be drafted. Strange. Being a fifth-year senior (old for draft-eligible players) obviously didn't help him.
Also surprised Fucci and Scholtens weren't drafted, but selfishly glad they'll be back on what should be a loaded WSU squad next season.

I'm with you twiz, I watch a lot of single A ball, and Fowler seems to play a better CF, and a better offensive threat than most of the ones in the Midwest League. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up playing somewhere eventually.

Interesting. A quick search finds articles on line that he committed to Central Michigan in 2014. No mention in the article above that he decommitted. Not sure if the Raiders' success this season had anything to do with this.

Interesting. A quick search finds articles on line that he committed to Central Michigan in 2014. No mention in the article above that he decommitted. Not sure if the Raiders' success this season had anything to do with this. I read where Alex Alders decommitted from Central Michigan last December and committed to Football at Ohio University in February, only to change his mind back to baseball and enter the mlb draft in hopes of playing minor league ball. I am guessing he may not have received an offer he liked and decided to look for a college baseball team again. So you are probably right that the Raiders success this past year had a lot to do with his choice of schools. Looks like he was good in football, basketball and baseball, which means Wright State should be getting a really good athlete, if he chooses to stick with this choice. Good Luck Alex.
