I respect the fans who love the old time greats like Dave Dinn, as a little boy my first memory of a good basketball player was Lenny Lyons, then Dinn, Robinson and wampler back in the PE building days. But Gary Monroe is definitely not a top 5 all time Raider is he? That said and with respect to our history those guys couldn't hang with the skill set of the Raiders a decade or two later. To be fair to both you could really break this down to pre Nutter Center (Div 2) and div 1 post 1991 or so. +1

Gary Monroe could have played anywhere. He is one of the best all around players we have ever had. He could do it all, score inside score outside, rebound, handle the ball. Gary was also a great defended, inside or outside. He also provided great leadership. Coach Brown use sing his praises in the post game interview. If in a Gary he didn't have his shot he didn't let that factor in to the rest of his game. He did everything else. I understand a lot of you never got a chance to see this kid play and he carries the D2 stigma. If you get the opportunity to talk to Coach Brown at a game, ask him about Gary Monroe and if he belongs in the top 5. I bet I know what his answer will be,

I just found some video from 1991 and saw Edwards, Hammonds, and Haley on the court at the same time. Those guys were tough and they looked like pro basketball players compared to the guys on the team today. Haley could of been the greatest Raider ever if he had his head in the game. On days that he came ready to play he was almost unstoppable. Come to think of it, he wasn't here very long, but Marvin Rodgers is probably one of the five best Raiders of all time.
