Seems like the rest of the league is playing it cheap, hiring first time head coaches to fill vacancies. All after we made a huge coaching splash. Very interesting. Not the case with Valpo, IMO. We're simply following the Butler model of promoting from within.

TJ Otzelberger expected to be named the head coach at South Dakota State today. He supposedly was selected to be the head guy at UW Milwaukee before their Chancellor decided to throw another log on the dumpster fire and overrule the select committee and AD.
He's considered to be one of the best recruiters in the country. I would trade him for Coach Nagy in a heartbeat. WSU got a great coach and a better man. Damn you.

CLEMSON – Clemson assistant coach Richie Riley is leaving the school to take the head coaching position at Nicholls State, a Division I program in Thibodaux, La. Riley, 33, had served on Brad Brownell’s staff the past two years, brought in from UAB to replace Earl Grant. Grant became the College of Charleston head coach after the 2013-14 season. www.postandcourier.com/20160426/160429518/clemson-loses-menx2019s-basketball-assistant-riley I wonder if Billy will land there for a couple of years. Opti It would sure make a lot of sense. Donlon's niche isn't as a head coach, but he's a hell of an assistant. Sent from my XT1254 using proboards

Michigan could be a great fit for him. The guy is very, very good in an assistant role, but wasn't a great manager. He did well under an up-and-comer in Brownell. If you put him under the wing of an establishment coach with major resources, he could get be a force from a few seats down the bench.

Great hire by UM. Donlon was over his head running a whole program, but he's a hell of a bench coach. I was very critical of him when it came to game management, scheduling, and personnel decisions. If you take those three things off his plate and give him someone to report to, he can be great.
I'm curious to see what wsuraider09 has to say about this one as a fellow Wolverine fan.

Couldn't be happier with the hire. I just saw pantheru posted it on Twitter and jumped over here for comments.
Glad for Billy and his family.

I am happy for Billy. I'm sure he will learn more and possibly n the future become a good head coach. When he learns to coach a balanced game he will improve as a head coach.
