i do not want a coach who bleeds green and gold. I do not want a coach who loves wsu. i do want a coach who has looked at this program and believes from the bottom of his heart that it can be one of the premier mid majors in the country. it can be a regular dancer. it can be developed into a program on the same level as x, ud, Wichita and uni. and that he believes he is the guy to do it.
bg is catching some grief from a number of folks. i want to give him some kudos. last year i was pretty tough on him because he did not make a change the. i took that to mean that the past five years were acceptable level of performance. but if you look at what he says his expectations are they match up exactly with what i and many other fans on here have said. i consider that a positive thing.

Two new faces that intrigue me are Greg Tonagel of Indiana Wesleyan (Grant Evans transfer) and Bacari Alexander of Michigan. Tonagel just won his second NAIA DII National Championship in the last tree years. Former Valpo player with elite record. He has led Indiana Wesleyan to two national titles, five elite eight appearances and eight crossroad titles including seven straight from 2009-2015. played in four NCAA tourneys for Valpo and later became Director of Basketball Operations at Valpo. Worth taking a peek at the Indiana Wesleyan athletic site. Another affordable guy maybe assistant Michigan coach, Bacari Alexander. The Detroit native iswas in his sixth season with Michigan this year and recruits and coaches the post players. Spent six seasons under Perry Watson at Detroit and he has developed over 80 per cent of his former front court players to gain opportunities to play professional basketball at various levels. Former Harlem Globetrotter and active in the Detroit area as motivational speaker promoting optimism and responsibility. Go to Michigan athletic site. I like both with their Horizon League/Midwest backgrounds. Everyone knows how Michigan's style of basketball is played. However, Tonagel is a defensive coach that offensively shoots the three. I believe both coaches are worth a look at and are affordable to WSU. Just my thoughts. Coach Tonagel's bio: www.iwuhoops.net/tonagel/

We need someone that has great recruiting contacts and already has ran a Div. 1 college school. We need a coach that can make the game on the floor something fans want to come and watch game after game. Make it an exciting experience for the casual fan that walks up and gets a ticket.

Tonagel's emphasis on his religious views being part of his coaching style bothers me. It bothered me with Schilling, too. I respect everyone's rights to their religious freedoms but it should be separated from your mission statement. Let your moral values be shown in the way that you teach and interact and keep quiet about religion.

I was interested in a previous mention of Johnny Dawkins as a possible coach. His credentials are okay and he'd be a great recruiter. I was curious as to what the attendance was like at Stanford's home games. As near as I can find they averaged just over 8,000 per game last season and seem to be on the same slope as most other D1 schools in their rate of decline.

I'm sure they want him to make his beliefs part of his coaching there. If he went to a state school like Wright State I think he would have to be made aware that he cannot coach that way and agree to that before taking the coaching job. It's not something I am concerned about.

I've been thinking we should look closely at ultra-successful D-II head coaches. Tonagel certainly fits the bill.

Indiana Wesleyan is NAIA DII, not NCAA DII. I'm not implying that should eliminate someone from contention, but it is a different organization with different rules concerning scholarships and such. Many NAIA schools tend to fall into a Christian based classification called the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA), of which Indiana Wesleyan belongs.

If Grant wants someone to excite the fan base and move us into the 'top 100' somehow, getting a coach from the NAIA or even D2 probably isn't what the doctor ordered.
But in all reality, my expectations aren't too high. The internet world is pretty quiet regarding out vacancy. A lot of other fanbases and media members are expecting BD to have quite a few options, but our future isn't being discussed.

Where BD ends up coaching next will be telling in my opinion. That said, it really only matters who we end up hiring now. If BG can land a current D1 head coach with recent success (aka Brownell 10 years ago) I'll be highly impressed.

i watched s.f. Austin give Norte dame everything they could handle. they should have won the dang game. not sure of their league, budget and salary but i would think we could be attractive to him. They have won 25 games or so for a few years. i do not even know his name but maybe we should look into him.

S.F. Austin's coach is Brad Underwood. Supposedly, Okla St, TCU, and UNLV are interested in talking to him.

If Grant fired Donlon without a replacement lined up ... that might be the dumbest thing I've ever heard of.
