The video BigD posted of Tyler on the reruiting link show a nice outside shot with the ability to penetrate the lane and score or dish off for the assist.

This kid looks good. He can shoot from the perimeter and can handle it fairly well from the highlight tape. I see him being a shooter off the bench the first year or two and then potentially a point guard to can be a threat to knock down the 3 ball.

Might be a valuable member of the team someday. Only going by who else showed any interest in this kid, I don't see a step up in our recruiting Nagy vs. Donlon. This addition will bring zero excitement and interest. It appears it will increase attendance by about 20. I'd give this a ho-hum on the excitement scale.

I guess you haven't taken the time to look at Nagy's past recruiting classes before he came to Wright State. Don't expect to be blown away by the kids he signs. He doesn't land 4 star recruits. He recruits guys that fit his system and as a result he wins games.

Latest Recruiting UpdatesTyler Mitchell – ’17 Kings PG: Another Cincinnati area senior making a commitment to an NCAA D1 school, Mitchell ended his recruitment on September 25th, as he pledged to in-state Wright State University and their new head coach Scott Nagy. A quick playmaking point guard with flair to his game, Mitchell, like Kuhlman, became the target of several mid-major programs in the July evaluation period; however, it was the proximity to home that drew him towards Wright State. As the first in-state commit for Nagy, Mitchell commitment could have a domino effect among Ohio prospects with a WSU offer, as the 5’11 point guard chose the Raiders over UNC Asheville and Oral Roberts after taking his official visits. tripledoubleprospects.com/2016/09/26/latest-recruiting-updates/

What are people's thought s on guard Tyler Mitchell from Kings High School class of 2017 who just gave his verbal commitment to WSU. Well just going by the two videos he appears to have good vision, shooting and a nice stop start hesitation with the ball that can freeze a defender. Fits the bill for the type of aggressive offensive player that Nagy said he likes to recruit. JMO based on observation I do not claim to be an expert. Since this thread started we picked up a PG transfer from SDSU, Cole Gentry, and another commitment from a prep SG/SF in Jaylon Hall. What is everyone's thoughts on our recruiting effort under our new coach so far?

I changed the title of the thread since we are talking about 3 recruits now. So far I like the class. We took care of our biggest need by bringing in 2 PGs that really fit Nagy's system well and they are even a year apart in eligibility. Tyler Mitchell and Cole Gentry are very similar type players. They have all of the characteristics you want to see in your PG. They are good ball handlers. The distribute the ball well and can create for their teammates. They are also really good scorers that shoot lights out from the field, 3 point line, and free throw line. I only wished Cole would have transferred here during the summer so we wouldn't have to wait until mid December to see him in a Wright State uniform. Jaylon Hall is a very talented kid and I am really surprised he didn't have more offers. I've heard that a lot of schools were expecting him to go to a prep school for a year to put on some weight. That is most likely the reason why he didn't have more offers. I think he will red-shirt unless he does some serious work in the weight room over the next 10 months. He has a great frame and really good basketball skills, but he is rail thin and needs to bulk up.
My only concern going into next year is we need help inside and I don't know if we have any scholarships left. If everyone returns, including Davis and Alstork we are out of scholarships. Nagy is no fool, so my guess is he is still recruiting big men for next year and knows that one or more players on our current roster wont be back next year.

My guess is that Alstork wont be back next season. He doesn't seem happy and Nagy doesn't seem happy with his play either, hence the recent benching. I think Alstork would be greatly served by staying and getting to play with the benefit of a true PG on the court with him next season. I get the impression that he has too many people in his ear giving him bad advice. I hope I am wrong but I think he will be playing in Europe next year or going the Julius Mays route and playing somewhere else next season as a grad transfer.

In regards to Nagy's recruits for next year. I like all 3. They seem to fit what he wants in his system really well. I still hope we are able to land an impact PF for next year. A 6-7/6-8 JUCO that can play the 4/5 for us would take us from a potentially decent team to a contender IMO. We have a lot of the other pieces to the puzzle, especially if Davis is granted his 6th year by the NCAA.

I think Justin Mitchell is the kid that benefits from this recruiting class the most. He is a natural SF in our system especially with the way he rebounds. He is doing his best trying to play PG but it isn't his natural position. With 2 PG recruits, Justin should be able to move back to SF and just dominate at that spot.

Jaylon Hall looks to be a good find. At 6'6" he handles the ball very well. Looks like a good defender as well. He might want to eat some steak, pizza and milkshakes for the summer while hitting the weights.
