“Soft” is a triggering word for this younger generation, so hopefully that helps. It’s possibly a little “soft” on Nagy’s part to call them out in the news but not pull them out of the game. At the end of the day, let’s hope he’s more keyed in than we are on what motivates the guys.

1. These guys are not just college players anymore. They are all making NIL money. When you are getting a scholarship, a stipend from the school, and NIL money, you have to accept you are going to have to deal with public criticism just as much as you get to accept all the public praise when you are successful. They need to man up.
2. Nagy obviously doesn’t know what the real problem is regarding his team’s “toughness”. You can’t motivate a kid to be tough by calling them out in the media or at practice or even in a private meeting. You can’t coach a kid to be tough. You are either tough or you aren’t. It’s a personal trait not everyone has. If he wants more physical players he needs to do a much better job identifying that attribute in the players he is recruiting and start focusing on those type of players.

True athletes want to compete. The coach has to be tough for the players to be tough. If a player misses defensive assignment twice, the coach has to take him out of game and tell him to watch so he can learn. He needs to concentrate on the player he is guarding to watch his moves. Then he can get better idea how to guard effectively. When the player comes out he should be sitting with an assistant to help him through the process of learning.

Agree with much of what's been said. Unfortunately I think there are some individuals on the team who just lack a competitive instinct, desire to win, or just don't want to make hustle plays. When someone makes a bad pass or has the ball knocked away, I'd hope the competitive instinct is to hustle back and try to win the ball back or make a defensive stop. Sometimes I just don't see that with certain individuals.
I really hope something changes. After last season when Trey and at the time Amari announced their intentions to return, I wondered if this season would end up like last season. Suffering through a .500 season would be ok if it were more of a rebuilding season with young players gaining experience to build to the future. Unfortunately we have one of the most experienced rosters around and appear to be headed for another mediocre season while the young players aren't gaining much experience.

Big D, just saw where NCAA notified schools that second time transfers would lose availability if play during two week window awaiting a ruling. Have you seen this?
