Really hard to argue with any of these. The only way realistically for Tanner to make the 2nd team is at the expense of Brandon. Oakland finished 1st and only got a 1st and a 2nd, YSU in second only got 2 second teamers and a freshman team. No way the 4th place team would get one on the 1st team and 2 on the second team. Agreed. Seemed like there were lots of good offensive players across the conference this year, and I think Brandon deserved the nod over Tanner for the second team. I think he drew more attention from opposing teams night in and night out.

Not sure how true it is but Kinner on his radio show last night said that Wright State is working to go "all in" on NIL not sure if that is true or what that means. If it is true that could be huge.

Would be interesting timing to go all-in on NIL with your AD on his way out the door. Not sure who would really be helping to orchestrate that charge? But yes, that would certainly be a good thing for us athletically.

I was very optimistic going into the season. Tanner Holden, one of the all-time WSU greats, was coming back to finish off his college career. The best players from the previous year were all returning. Wright State was going to get extra time to jell by playing games in Italy during the summer. Kaden Brown and Drey Carter played very well in Italy and seemed destined for considerable playing time, from what I could see on the message board. I thought this team was going to be very deep and have 10 players get substantial minutes. But, the reality was that the starters played the majority of the minutes, the three freshmen hardly played, the one proven backup played little and was inconsistent. The "new" transfer player was not ready for primetime and did not contribute at all. And, in hindsight, perhaps too many players were redshirted. I have to put the blame on Nagy for the team underperforming again. Nagy's coaching style is like the movie Ground Hog Day, he does the same thing every year. Every year he plays the five starters too many minutes and they are worn out at the end of games and at the end of the season. The subs never get enough minutes in the out-of-conference games to get comfortable and they are not prepared to play meaningful minutes during Horizon League play. I still think this team should have won 25 plus games this year, but something was missing and the results did not match my expectations. Next year is going to be the complete opposite and no one has any idea what kind of a team Wright State will have or who will be on it.

Does anyone have an opinion - or even insider info - on each of the three guys who are in the portal? My thoughts without an insider info:
Brown was looking like the heir apparent at PG. When he DID get to play, he was usually on the floor with the other freshman. Not bagging on the other freshman here, it's just a big ask of a true freshman PG to play with other freshman. I hope he reconsiders.
I'm not at all surprised that Braun is in the portal. All he did was put the damn ball in the basket and play decent/good defense. So Nagy dogged him about rebounding. So frustrating. He is/was the perfect C in a conference like the HL. If he had his existing talents AND was also a rebounding machine, he'd likely have been playing on a tournament team over the last few weeks.
Anderson was red shirted all year. According to the Recruiting page, it was just us and Ball State chasing hum. It feels like he saw the writing on the all...or was shown someone else's writing on the wall.
Nagy's use of Welage has/had always frustrated me...and likely Welage as well. IMO Nagy wanted/needed him to play bigger than he is. I know he has defensive limitations...but so does/did a boatload of other players...some who rarely left the court. I've said it before and I'll say it again...he seemed to live in Nagy's doghouse. I wish we would have used him as a sixth man and ran plays to get him open looks. I could make the same 'run plays to get him open looks' comment on Hube and others as well.
Lastly, I get the sentiment for recruiting local guys, but no different than non-local guys the HC has to remember why he recruited that player in the first place and work with what they've got while developing them in other areas.

Not exactly what you're asking but your comment about local guys is a tangent I've been on with my buddies. We really need to use the portal to land local kids. We should be recruiting and building relationships with all the top talent coming out of the Dayton region - even (especially) kids that are likely going to land at a level higher than the HL. Let them play a couple seasons in a higher level program if we miss out on them but you've built that foundation on those relationships and should be an easy sell if they want to come back closer to home in a few years.
House and Conner are two good current examples - Alstork before them. My main point being, rather than reaching for a local player like we may have done with Anderson last year, we should be recruiting the top talent in the region and playing the long game with them.

I agree with this. While the women's side and men's side are nowhere near comparable, Kari Hoffman has been able to bring the locals back home (Hutchison and Ferrel). Different situations with Hutchison taking the step up from D2 and Ferrel making a lateral move from the MAC, but it is certainly worthwhile to create those relationships initially during high school and then come back to them if those players hit the portal. For House, I don't know where he wants to go. People in town have said that his parents moved to Tallahassee to be with him and his sister (who appears to be an assistant volleyball coach for the Seminoles). I like the chances of Conner coming back home.
