Today is day 39 of the Clint Sargent era and we are still waiting for him to land his first recruit. This is complete bs.

Sure would be nice if we could get our thumbs out of our asses long enough to sign a friggin recruit. Any excitement surrounding the program, if you could say there was any, about Sargent becoming head coach is just about gone at this point. We need to make a move, and quick.

Big D just updated Peter Suder’s thread on the recruiting board. We recruited him out of high school. He put up decent numbers at Bellarmine except his 3 point shooting was horrendous. I’m not sure if he is a SG or SF or where he would fit in here. A PG and a couple of PFs seem to be more of a priority to me, but it’s nice to see our coaches are at least recruiting someone. wrightstate.proboards.com/thread/3538/bellarmine-transfer-peter-suder?page=1&scrollTo=115571He is heading to Miami

Nomera just posted a highlight video of our only signing so far since Sargent took over. That 3 minute highlight video might be every single highlight of his playing career at Norfolk State. He played 12-13 minutes a game and averaged 5 points and under 2 rebounds a game for NORFOLK STATE. Quite honestly, I would have been ok if this was a walk on announcement made a month from now. We have real needs to fill and this is not filling any of them. If this is all Sargent is going to be able to sign as our head coach then we might as well cut out losses and forfeit all of next season and start a real search for our next AD and head coach. This is just pathetic.

At first glance, I wasn't the least bit excited about the signing, but I'm willing to give him a chance. At the very least, he adds depth and some decent size and athleticism. His stats aren't great, but I'll note a few things: - His first game was December 13, so I'd guess he was dealing with an injury. - He only averaged 12.8 minutes, but Norfolk State went deep on their bench. They had 13 players average 10+ minutes on the season and only 1 player average more than 25 minutes. Only 2 players averaged double digit scoring. - Norfolk State wasn't terrible this past season-- 24-11, won the CIT, and won @ VCU, @ Illinois State, and beat South Dakota State on a neutral floor by 19.
Let's just hope the coaching staff lands some bigger recruits--we could really use a couple of big men.

In FORTY days this is our only addition. Other HL teams brought in completely new staffs and have already filled out their rosters. Sargent and co are over their head and either need to step it the hell up and start recruiting like a HL champion level staff or our president really does need to get involved. She has been an advocate of our athletic department. She needs to realize really really fast how much athletics is our identity in this region. If she lets us turn into a bottom feeder it will hurt the university much more than she probably realizes. This isn’t time for on the job training with a rookie AD and rookie coach for our most high profile sport. We better get some real additions soon.

Without any behind the scenes information. How much of the lack of new player activity is due to new coaches, how much is due to NIL, and are players in the portal waiting for the top teams with NIL money to fill out their rosters before looking at mid-majors, and teams with less NIL?
I’m thinking it’s a little of each. I have no idea how to even contribute to WSU’s NIL collective. So I would have to think that the WSU’s NIL may be the starting point, and the trickle down effect from the big money NIL programs would be second, and the new coaches being third in the cause of lack of movement in the roster. But I’m just making assumptions on my knowledge, or lack of, with the situation.
I’m going to hold out judgement until I see the final roster before the school year starts. Hopefully we field a championship quality team. If not, then everything needs to be reexamined to figure out the root of the problem if one does show up. Hopefully all is well!

The next step is seeing if the coaching staff can develop him into a good player. There are still a lot of good players and dwindling places to go. We have an unproven first year coach and I'm sure that is concerning to some players.

JoQuarius Valrie started being followed by Coach Trice and Coach Goff a few days ago. He looks athletic and shot at a high percentage from all 3 levels.
