I don't know if Coach Brownell will bring any of his former assistants with him from UNCW, but here are their profiles. Marty McGillan Men's Assistant Basketball Coach Marty McGillan begins his third year as an assistant coach at his alma mater. The 1990 graduate helped the Seahawks capture their third CAA title last season and is thoroughly enjoying his new position. "This was a great opportunity for me and my family to come back to a place that has good people, a good basketball tradition and excellent community support," he said. Head Coach Brad Brownell said, "We're very happy to have Marty join our program. He has a great deal of recruiting experience in the Southeast. He's also very well known among his peers and respected for his work ethic, knowledge of the game and integrity. He will bring a great deal of passion and pride to the program." A native of Silver Spring, Md., McGillan, 40, is no stranger to the Wilmington area. After earning his Bachelor's Degree in Parks and Recreation Management in 1990, he served as an assistant coach at Cape Fear Academy for two years before moving on to USC Salkehatchie. McGillan coached at USC Salkehatchie for one season before joining the staff at East Carolina. In 1993, the Pirates won the CAA Championship and collected the school's first NCAA Tournament berth in 21 years. After five seasons in Greenville, McGillan worked as an assistant coach at Coastal Carolina for one year before taking over as the top recruiter at The Citadel. He assisted with all phases of The Citadel program under Head Coach Pat Dennis for four years before accepting a position at the College of Charleston. In 2001-02, McGillan helped former College of Charleston Coach John Kresse build a 21-9 record. Hometown: Silver Spring, Md. Birthdate: Aug. 17, 1963. Education: B.A., Parks and Recreation Mgt. Bill Donlon Assistant Men's Basketball CoachFormer UNCW point guard and all-time assist leader Bill Donlon begins his third season as an assistant coach for the Seahawks. Donlon played a key role in helping the Seahawks collect their third NCAA Tournament appearance and set a school record for victories in 2002-03. Donlon's hiring was the first personnel move by Coach Brad Brownell. The Northbrook, Ill., native returned to his alma mater after completing a professional playing career in Germany and coaching stints at American and St. Peter's. Donlon played in 118 games for the Seahawks from 1996-99, ranking him third on the all-time list behind Stewart Hare and Marcus Green. His third assistant had already left UNCW before Brownell accepted the WSU job. Here is the release.....
JONES ACCEPTS NEW POSITION IN KANSAS CITY
WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNC Wilmington men’s basketball assistant coach Byron Jones has resigned to become Director of Basketball Operations with Premiere Basketball, Inc., in Kansas City, Mo.
Jones, 37, joined Head Coach Brad Brownell’s staff in 2002-03 when the Seahawk skipper took over the helm and has been involved in all facets of the successful program. The Seahawks have amassed an 83-40 record in that span, collecting a pair of Colonial Athletic Association titles and NCAA Tournament berths, including the 2006 CAA title.
“I’ve enjoyed coaching at UNCW,” said Jones. “I appreciate everything that Coach Brownell, my fellow coaches, the athletic department, administration, Wilmington community and our outstanding players have done to support and enhance my career.
“This gives me an opportunity to move back to the Midwest, where I grew up, and allows me to get closer to my family. Once again, I really appreciate the support of everyone in the UNCW family and wish everyone the best in the future.”
Premiere Basketball is a non-profit company that works in conjunction with Mid-America Youth Basketball to operate camps, clinics and leagues in the Midwest quadrant of the country.
“We want to sincerely thank Byron for all he’s done over the last four years to help with the continued growth of UNCW basketball,” said Brownell. “He’s done a great job with all aspects of the program and has served as a tremendous role model for our players. We wish him the very best in his future endeavors and we’re confident he will continue to have a positive impact on young people’s lives.”

Coach Brownell might decide to keep one of Biancardi's assistants. Ed Huckaby has proven himself to be a very good recruiter at both Wright State and Hampton. Coach Donoher is also popular with our current players and liked in the local community. Our new coach might want to consider keeping one of these guys.

I know coaches usually bring in their own people, but that's not guaranteed. Having someone with a tie to the current players would help the transition. With Donoher's ties to the community and his daughter's recent health problems, I wouldn't be surprised to see him retained. It would be a nice PR move by our new coach.

Ed Huckaby was a finalist for the Hampton opening. Taylor said that Hampton interviewed eight candidates from the more than 100 applicants. The finalists included former Florida International coach Donnie Marsh, an assistant at Indiana this season, former California coach Todd Bozeman, former NBA standout Johnny Newman, former Hampton and Wright State assistant Ed Huckaby, and Richard Morgan, an HU assistant coach the past three seasons. www.dailypress.com/sports/dp-97085sy0apr01,0,3912271.story?coll=dp-sports-local

I would be surprised if coach Brownell retained any of our current coaches. I initially thought Brian might be a good fit since he has so many local connections to the area high school coaches but the more I read about BB the more I discovered that he already recruited this area pretty hard for UNCW. Not that adding Brian Donoher would be a bad thing but I suspect he'll go with folks he already knows.
From a presonal stand point I would love for Brain to be added to the staff........we'll just have to wait and see.
I am pulling for coach Huckaby to land the Hampton job. That would be a terrific move up the "corpate" coaching latter for him. Good luck coach Huck!

“There’s a lot of movin’ and shakin’ this time of year,” said former UNC-Wilmington assistant coach Marty McGillan, who has an offer to join Brownell’s staff at Wright State. McGillan seems secure in the fact that he’ll land somewhere solid, but he knows it won’t be Wilmington. This is life in the nomadic profession known as coaching. “It beats working and having a (real) job,” McGillan, 42, said. He’s been in the profession 18 seasons. He may join Brownell in his new gig, but he’s looking at other undisclosed options. Assistant coach Billy Donlon will be joining Brownell at Wright State, which competes in the Horizon League. Paperwork still must be completed, but Donlon, like McGillan a UNCW graduate, will wear Raiders green on the recruiting trail. www.wilmingtonstar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060411/NEWS/60411001/1005It sounds like we will probably get both McGillan and Donlon as assistants. I hope we get a third assistant here in a hurry. The late signing period starts tomorrow.

Donlon resigns, will coach at WSU Almost three weeks after Brad Brownell left the nest for Wright State University one of his assistant coaches is following him. Bill Donlon officially tendered his resignation on Monday and told WECT Sports by phone that he will become one of Brownell's assistants at WSU. "I just want the people of Wilmington to embrace the current players and allow the seniors to leave with their heads held up." Donlon went on to say, "This is truly and end of an era at UNCW." According to Donlon he won't officially join the Raiders program until May due to an agreement between the outgoing assistants and the Wright State Athletic department. Donlon becomes the second assistant coach to leave since the departure of Brownell. Byron Jones took a job in Kansas City, Missouri but has returned to interview for the head coaching vacancy. Jones was the fourth candidate interviewed for the job. Brownell's top assistant Marty McGillan was considered for the head coaching vacancy at the Citadel before it was filled. wect.com/Global/story.asp?S=4781437&nav=menu157_4

I don't know. I have been stopping by the official WSU site every couple of hours for the last 2 days looking for the release. I don't know what the holdup is. I believe both Donlon and McGillan have been working for WSU for the past 2 weeks on temporary contracts waiting for May 1st so they could be hired officially.
