I guess it didn't occur to the writer that the quality Wright State team could have won game 3, had it been played. I agree 100%, dogbert. My initial reaction was the Raiders were equally or more disappointed the game was cancelled due to weather. I'm sure the Raiders would have liked to put that "feather in their cap" vs. a top ranked team while on the road. However, at the end of the day, it was just a small capsule written for a top-20 team. When we're consistently ranked I hope we're given the same benefit for splitting a series.

#13 Ole Miss In the series-opening win, the Rebels showed what they’re capable of when operating at near-full capacity. Five of the team’s 11 hits went for extra bases, including homers for Tyler Keenan and Cooper Johnson, and Will Ethridge threw 5.2 shutout innings. They are undoubtedly disappointed to not have played the third game in this series due to weather, as a season-opening series win over a quality Wright State team would have been a feather in their cap. www.baseballamerica.com/rankings/college-baseball-top-25/

D1 Digest: Saturday, Feb. 16 Kendall Rogers’ Five 3. Upset of the day: Wright State over Ole Miss I’m not sure Wright State beating anyone of significance is truly an upset. After all, the Raiders are consistently solid. But Wright caught everyone’s attention Saturday afternoon with a 9-5 road win over Ole Miss. The Raiders scored seven runs in the third and fourth innings, respectively, to take charge against the Rebels. WSU’s Seth Gray was the offensive headliner in the win, smacking a two-run double in the third before hitting a two-run single in the fourth. He was alone in the production department. Wright first baseman Kyle Casserly had two hits and two RBIs, while Zane Harris and Zach Weatherford also had productive days with two hits each. Wright touched up Ole Miss starting pitcher Zack Phillips for five runs on seven hits in just 2.2 innings, while it also had success against Rebels reliever Taylor Broadway. As for the Rebels, they were on the losing side of things, but Thomas Dillard and Ryan Olenek were bright spots with both hitting their first home runs of the season. d1baseball.com/roundup/d1-digest-saturday-feb-16/

Have others noticed the ESPN HL game "Halftime Report" is prerecorded? I don't mind them promoting upcoming games, but don't blow smoke up my *ss and tell me it's a halftime report. The least the HL could do is request ESPN to display the score of the HL game in a scroll at the bottom of the screen with some stats while they promote Duke and UK's upcoming games...

U.S. Bank arena is the best place to have this (financial considerations aside) based on the initial requirements set out by the Horizon LeCrone. Evidently something changed, or didn't materialize, in the Horizon LeCrone process so that the Horizon LeCrone selected Indy without properly notifying other bidders the initial requirements changed.
As far as the Indy fairgrounds not being the "home" of IUPUI basketball, well that's an interesting topic. I've had lengthy discussions with some people in charge of enforcing Title IX at the NCAA level--all of them women. From what I've learned (their opinion) it's very subjective with the NCAA, but in my discussions these women disagreed with how the NCAA handles the issue. Trying not to get into the weeds, but 99% of the time the NCAA interprets Title IX not only as women having access to the same level of facilities as men, but that equivalent sports (i.e., basketball, hockey, volleyball) are played in the same facilities. But for some reason that excludes many P-5+2 (Big East, AAC) programs (UK, DePaul, St. John's, UNC, Creighton, Marquette, Memphis, etc., etc.). Perhaps now the HL.
For those who remember, the women's basketball team would occasionally have home games in the McLin gym. That doesn't happen anymore--and it ain't because we don't have hockey.

That was pretty damn ugly. I said it will come down to pitching...All 10 runs scored by Ole Miss were earned on only 11 hits. Though the runs were earned defense didn't help out. Today's game it didn't look like the team went over simple fundamentals in the off season. A) a runner on third shouldn't be able to tag up and score on a popup hit 30 feet behind 2nd base and the center fielder be caught by surprise the runner is tagging. B) a dropped third strike shouldn't result in runner coming in to score because the catcher didn't look him back to 3rd and then make a lazy ass throw (lob) to 1st. Good high school teams don't make those mistakes.

It's game day and an exciting day for Wright State athletics!
NCAA.com, D 1 Baseball and College Baseball News all have the WSU vs. Ole Miss series as one of their top-10 opening weekend series to watch. That's interesting in-and-of itself as there are some major college programs playing head-to-head this weekend (e.g., Vandy, TCU, Cal-State Fullerton in a round-robin, Long Beach State vs. Florida, St. John's vs. UCLA, Notre Dame vs. Arizona State, etc.). One of the D 1 Baseball writers, David Seifert, picked WSU to win the series down in Oxford.
All games are on SEC+ and if you're subscribed to the SEC Network via your cable or satellite provider and can watch the games for free (No ESPN+ subscription required). Today's Game time is 5 PM Eastern.
Pitching, for both sides, will be the key to the series. For Ole Miss all 3 weekend starters will be making their D 1 college debut as a starter. Today's starter is the only one who pitched for the Rebels last year, but they were all relief appearances. Tomorrow's starter is a highly recruited JUCO Transfer and Sunday's starter is a true freshman. The freshman was selected 36th overall in last year's MLB draft by the Pirates and he declined a $2 Million signing bonus and opted to play for Ole Miss. This spring he's been consistently throwing 92-93 mph, but I expect him to be in the mid-90's Sunday.
Though there's a good chance for scattered showers this afternoon I expect to see a nearly full ballpark with a raucous crowd. FWIW, Ole Miss set an all-time sales record for season tickets sold this year. 7,100+. Hopefully they go home disappointed after the first weekend.

Holy cow! They have Diamond Girls at Ole Miss. There is like 30 of them. I will have to dig up a photo to post. Wright State needs Diamond Girls too. I think they promote and maybe cheer on the baseball team. We have diamond girls in Dayton too. Oh, wait, that might be the wrong Diamond girls. But I hear they say they're broke college girls working to pay for tuition and books. So, maybe...?? Anyhow, MLB TV had a segment on the student section at Ole Miss. I particularly like the beverage toss, but really hope we don't see that this weekend!

Premium tier coverage in most plans I have seen have you pay more for your insurance coverage if your annual salary is at a certain level. Be interesting to see if the union saved the members money by basing it on a 9 month salary or how much they saved. Also, it matters what 9 month salary. Summer base pay is cut 20% in the 1st contract and 15% in the 2nd contract. If I were in the union I would want those summer months to be counted in the 9 month calculation. However, I don't think it works that way...

I guess I live in an Orwellian World. The AAUP had a celebratory "faculty reunited" locked arms "solidarity" walk to campus this evening.
This is what their faculty solidarity strike got them:
Retrenchment--Approved by BOT (Board of Trustees) Jan. 4, 2019 (prior to strike by union)
Workload--Same
Continuing Appointment and Promotion--Same, except continuing employment language goes from 7th year of employment to 8th year after April 1, 2019.
Cost Savings Days--Approved by BOT Jan. 4, 2019 (prior strike)
Retirement Incentive Program--Approved by BOT Jan. 4, 2019
Summer Teaching/Faculty Rights and Responsibilities--Approved by BOT Jan. 4, 2019
Medical, Dental & Vision Insurance--Approved by BOT Jan. 4, 2019. --AAUP Joins University's plan April, 1, 2019 --Added language into CBO University will offer min. 2 plans --Added language Premium Tier coverage will be based on 9 month salary, not annualized. --Added Language Premiums (out-of-pocket) cannot increase more than 35% from Jan. 1 2021 to Dec. 31, 2023
Pay & Salary Provisions. --2.5% increase in 2022 --2.5% increase in 2023 --AAUP members who participated in Strike will Not receive backpay. Health benefits will be bridged.
Overload & Research Stipends adjusted up 6% in 2023.
Mutual withdraw of unfair labor practices.
Celebratory arm-in-arm walk....IMHO, That's like claiming a moral victory after a 25-point beat down on your home court when Vegas had you at a +2.5 dog.

The devil is in the details. Do they keep the bennies until the next negotiations or is it going to be a gradual sunset of the unions plan? Exactly. I heard there are 2 parts to the 5-year contract that need approved. Plus it still has to be approved by the Trustees and AAUP. Both sides are claiming victory. Hope the majority vote for it after all the vitriol spewed. It would be a shame people don't vote to approve if they see in the details the other side got something in return...
